20th Anniversary AZ Cobras Christmas Party Report
AZ COBRA 2020 ANNIVERSARY PARTY
A fun time had by all. We had 11 cobras and 24 people attend the 20th AZ Cobra Anniversary Party once again hosted by Ron & Pam Evans. Ron has one of those 11. Lots of free tacos sponsored by Ron & Pam again, plus lots of desserts that many brought. Pam even made cookies, brownies and a cake. Whew! Gained 4 lbs by Saturday night. Saw a few of Ron’s newest creations. A Fantastic 56 truck, a 2019 Porsche GT3, and an old Resto-Mod Porsche. Ron still has my Ford GT on display. I just haven’t bought it yet since Ron is still living.
Lots of Covid cancellations this year including Mike, Keith, Dr Bruce, Ralphie, and Al & Pattie. I am guessing our turnout was only about 2/3 of normal.
This photo is the outside lineup:
Thanks go out to more people who donated to me to help cover trophies and Ron & Pam Gift, Including Bruce B, Gary & Vicki, and specially Greg & Vicki. Another person donated but I can’t remember who. Anyway, thank you.
Here is a sample of the gift spelling out their name in car parts except it says "EVANS." I already have an idea for next year.
It was nice to see new faces like Frank, Ralph and Larry. Frank and Ralph brought really angry cobras. Ralph is becoming a regular.
Trophies for “Best of AZ Cobras” for 2020 went to Greg Keller, Gary Stubbs, Jeff Classic, and Brian Williams.
These were chosen by our founder, Mike Canning, who also took the great group photo. Mike & I were the only attendees who were at the original Party in December of 2001 at Gordon Levy’s first shop in Tempe.
Mike also brought a great garage “Snake Crossing” sign to raffle and Vicki & Greg were the winner!
Lots of fun stealing all the Gift Exchange goodies and with 1 left over (don’t know why,) we had another raffle so Frank ended up with 2 gifts. Apparently someone dropped off a gift and left?? Thanks to Mark & Lisa for running the fun.
Annual Rotating trophies went this way:
IRON BUTT: Guess who? Karl “Butt” Bebout
Spirited Driver: Scott Siggins since his car broke down on 2 different trips. Other breakdowns this year include me (tire,) Dan (transmission,) and Jesse (electrical.)
The Wagon representing the Club Spirit went to Jim Cook since he tries to attend everything, helps kids sit in his car, and does lots of burnouts. Mark will transport to him
The Challenge Plaque is still with Al & Patty in Tucson. Mike Canning says he wants it back to be retired next time we see Al & Patty since there is no competition between Phoenix and Tucson anymore.
Here is the final group photo at the end of festivities:
Sorry it took so long for this post but I had a Wild West Mustangs Club Christmas party later the same day and then the TOYZ FOR TOTZ Run to Wickenburg on Sunday.
