Neighborhood Noise Complaints and Good Insurance Carrier
I am a new FFR owner and I have a couple questions.
What insurance carrier should I consider?
Also, is noise a problem.
I am concerned about the noise I create entering and exiting the neighborhood.
Maybe I am concerned about a non-issue as I have not brought the car home yet.
Gordon Levy is doing adjustments to the car for me.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jim

I've been wondering what will become of the blatter Harleys, ricers, and droners as electric vehicles become more common. Will there be soundtracks available connected to tach inputs? Will the stereos be piped outside?

Random thoughts: - Side pipes will always sound a lot louder to driver and passenger than they do to others at a distance.
- Use a light foot on the throttle around your neighbourhood and you'll most likely avoid any complaints or negative repercussions.
- FFR side pipes seem to be louder than some others. There have been many different solutions (and threads) for quieter side pipes posted. Some links below. Also: Use the Search function.

Give your neighbors a couple joy rides and they will soon forget about any noise.

American Modern Collector Car Insurance has been very good to me for quite a few years. They go with an "agreed value" and charge accordingly

As a cobra owner, one needs to have a DGAF attitude....

My neighbors when I had the Cobra in Colorado were the whiniest Californiates you ever saw. As long as I wasn't obnoxious about it and didn't rev the engine for the purposes of rattling windows, they didn't complain, and for the most part I was an early departer, typically 7AM on weekends and on the weekdays I drove it to work. And indeed, the most obnoxious guy across the street deliberately made his Harley as loud and obnoxious as possible. "It's so people can hear me on the highway." The others couldn't complain about my car unless they railed into him too and he never ever let anyone forget he was a US Marshall.

Check with Barrett Jackson. It used to be AIG Private Client group but the main clearing house (a company in Ohio?) uses some of the others including American Modern (who I had my Ford GT insurance with). If you do go with that broker check out their civilian auto/homeowners packages. If you're lucky enough to be in a state with Auto Owners they had the best rates for a complete package that I've ever found. Unfortunately Auto Owners doesn't do business in Nevada.

I shopped insurance for a recent purchase of a BDR. I went the recommendation from Frank at Backdraft Racing and it was the best deal out there. Contact Mike Smith at Northeast Classic Auto Insurance for a quote.

I can't remember which one of the big Japanese car makers, but one had stereo system where you could push a button and hear different engines inside the car. It even modulated with the accelerator pedal! I can't remember which engines you could select, but obviously F1 was one!

Have your neighbors over show them the car, have a cocktail under the stars on your patio and make friends.
Friends do not care about the noise ...........
Non-issue!

I use Erie for my Backdraft (and everything else). Runs me $53/ Mo. Told them I'll drive it less than 2k mi/yr.

My car is louder than most and my neighbors tell me it rattles the pictures on the walls in their house but, fortunately, they think it's cool. Also, when I back out of the garage I immediately drive to the end of the driveway at the street to get away from the house and do my prep/warm up there. I also drive through the neighborhood at 25 mph and just above idle RPM. So, I've never had any complaints. One guy toward the other end of the neighborhood recognized me when we were on a walk and asked me if I'm the guy with the cobra. When I said yes, he said "nice rumble". Bottom line, if you're respectful and keep it as quiet as possible, people notice that and don't mind. It's for such a short duration it shouldn't be a problem anyway. With all that, if someone still complains, they're an a**hole.

There's a lot to be said for that approach! Back in 1988-92, my then boss, bought a Lockheed PV2 Harpoon, a WWII Navy bomber. On the way home from airshows, we would buzz his house, to let his wife know we were back. He told his neighbors if they had a problem with the noise, to call him first! Never did get a complaint, the neighbors would often be outside Sunday afternoons waiving. Can't imagine what those twin 18 cylinder 2800 cubic inch, 2000 hp engines must have sounded like from the ground! Much louder then a Cobra I'm sure!

I use Robbin at Midwest. They underwrite through American Modern. Very reasonable and easy to work with. They are used to Cobras and kit cars.
