Summer project...
Soon I'll actually be able to keep up with all of you on road trips.
(No, it's not the "Ford versus Chevy" thing- It's the "4 speeds are just fine, until you want to cruise at 75+ mph" thing)
AND, the ONE thing on my old beater Vette that always leaked (the trans) will leak no more.
I'm installing me a brand new shiny clean TKX600 5 speed.
Mcleoud says I have to put 500-750 miles of "stop and go city driving" on the clutch before I romp on it... Which means I'm in for a HOT summer of around town driving, with no A/C.
The Muncie M20 4spd was the last "original numbers matching" drivetrain component in my car (the diff was replaced in the 80's, and the engine was replaced in the 90's, and again in 2005)
Now the original transmission is out... My car is "zero-numbers matching" now. (Which is GREAT- saves me a ton on my Hagerty policy )
It also means I can drive it without fear of reprisal from the NCRS Corvette-cops.

I am putting in TKX but will break in while in Santa Fe in a week. Trailer to and from. Will not need A/C.

Robert, Gary's "reason" for the trailer is that there's no room for their golf clubs in the Cobra. SOME people come up with any excuse to not drive their Cobra, but then again.....at least THEY HAVE A COBRA!

Golf clubs? Oh, well ok then.... I can respect that; so yeah, they get a free pass.

Cobra, Shmobra... The only difference is that my car is easier to get in and out of...
and breaks down less often...

Hey Gary- What transmission are you replacing with the TKX?
I drove mine to the office today, and finally had the chance to jump on the freeway and feel the overdrive... It's like a completely different car. 50mph in 4th runs at the same 2200 RPM as 75mph in 5th. 80mph is right at 2500rpm.
It's Perfect. (for reference, my car runs 3.36 rear gears, and rather tall 235/70-15 rear tires)
And, I'm pleased to say- This transmission shifts as smoothly and cleanly as any old Muncie or Toploader. It is SO MUCH better than every Tremec transmission I have ever driven before.
Of course, it will take me many more miles of clutch breakin, before I can test how it shifts at WOT, but so far, it's been money well spent.
