Default Cheap starting point for a Cobra race car - Brisbane

Cobra race car body/chassis for sale, with HEAPS of extras.
...Or think of it as pretty much a complete car less engine, trans, diff centre, axles, wiring and fuel system.

The time has come to realise that I won't get my Cobra back together and onto a racetrack anytime soon, so I've decided to bite the bullet and sell it. It will make a cheap and cheerful race car for someone who is keen to install their own running gear and get amongst it. As it is an RMC "street" body, the doors still have the full side intrusion panels, etc, so it's not a featherweight. The chassis is a custom built chassis by Pro-Sport Engineering and it is effectively a copy of the RMC chassis so that it uses the same body mounting points. Ozvenom was instrumental in getting this car together in the first place.

This chassis has been used for off-street events but has not been engineered for road use, so the car is being sold for racing purposes only. While I would assume that the body and chassis and many components would meet requirements, the side pipes, steering column, switches, brake lines and other small bits would need to be changed if you were to aim for registration. Sorry that I couldn't advise you further about this aspect.

What's on offer...

RMC body
Structural Venom Custom Fabrications roll bar
Lift-off front
Extended drivers foot box
Venom Bonnet - yep it's a big-un (clearance for Super Victor manifold, blower or tall individual runner injection)

Following parts included:
Windscreen
Mirrors
Head lights
Brake lights
Indicators
Latched fuel cap

Venom Custom Dash
Full set of Autometer UltraLite gauges

Quick release steering hub
Jaz racing buckets

Wilwood 6 piston GNIII calipers
Wilwood 4 Piston SuperLite calipers
13" rotors all round
Wilwood pedal box
Wilwood master cylinders
Braided brake lines

Triangle Engineering fuel cell with foam and sender
Stainless hard fuel lines - feed from rear and return from engine bay.

Pro-Sport Engineering chassis (similar to RMC design - twin rail, ribbed steel floor)
Afco upper a-arms
GM hubs
Spax coil-overs
9" Ford housing
Heim jointed Z bar 4 link

17x9, 17x11 genuine Racing Hart C5 rims (cost $3K when new)
Old 245/40 and 285/40 tires

Chassis mounts to suit SBF
Daryl Wells custom headers to suit 351W - HPC coated and heat-wrapped
Daryl Wells working stainless side pipes
Custom alum radiator ($800 new)
Twin electric fans

Most parts still installed, some in boxes. Car rolls, so can be easily loaded onto a trailer. Definitely not a show car, but would make a great basis for a fun, cheap and cheerful race car.

Paint is Glasurit 2 pack, which looks fabulous as the car drives by but it's no show car. There is a tiny bit of damage at the front from someone backing into it. Some stress lines in the bodywork. Front suspension geometry could use some work. Scrub radius was never right. I only ever had an overpowered motor and spool rear end, so I never really gave it a chance to work... Some pitting in brightwork. Bit of a ding in one of the sidepipe tubes. Not too noticeable, and doesn't affect performance.

Here's my lack of space issue...
(Think of that perfect quote from The Castle - "Ay Steve, Can you move the Camira? I need to get the Torana out to get to the Commodore.
Sure thing Dad, but I'll have to get the keys to the Cortina if I'm gunna move that Camira.
Alright mate, just watch the boat.")

While I get the Cobra out into daylight, here are some old photos for an idea of what it looks like.

Everything you see in this photo is included

Fuel Cell (Mumford Bar has been replaced by Ozvenom with a Panhard Bar.

Bonnet

Custom radiator with heim joint mounts (intercooler not included)

Fuel cell and anodised Z Bar suspension arms (tray with other fuel system items not included)

Easy access with the front removed

Side shot - wheels and brakes

Rather than replacing the missing parts and selling the car as a complete turn-key vehicle,
I want the buyer to get it for the right price and to have options for what direction they want the completed car to take.
Go with a Ford motor and use the chassis mounts and headers/sidepipes?
Fit an LS Chev for the light weight and the power gains and make the mounts and headers to suit? Lexus turbo? Coyote?

Asking price.... it's obviously cost me a truckload more, but if someone throws high teens at me I reckon we'd have a deal.
(Point of clarification - high teens means $17K to $19K, not drug affected teenagers...) If you don't want/need the radiator or wheels for example, we could play around with the price a bit more.

Inspections welcome. Interstate guys if you can't line up a mate to look at it for you, I can take a million photos next weekend. Just ask me what you want to see. PM any questions or your ph number and I can reply or call you from there.

Cheers,

PMs replied to - thanks.

It's worth noting that this car has been a complete, driving car. As such, it has countless items included that you wouldnt get on a bare body/chassis unit. In addition to what's listed above...
Formuling steering wheel
Installed handbrake assembly
Fully carpeted interior
Removable, trimmed trans tunnel cover
Alloy guard vents
2 Mounted pedals (was an auto)
Reversing lights
Number plate light
Etc etc etc.

The Cobra saw the light of day today. Here is a photo showing the car as it sits today;

One of my pet hates normally is crappy welding, but after seeing the welding to the underside of your tank I think I'm in love! That looks beautiful!

Regards.

Hi guys. I'm happy to say the Cobra is sold and will be heading interstate. I will leave it to the new owner to provide details about his plans for it (if he chooses to), but it sounds like a fun project! Scotty, thanks for the reminder about the Wilwood clutch pedal. I'll drop over one day to grab it.

Thanks to those who showed an interest in the car, and thanks to Brent Mills and the moderators of ClubCobra for bringing together a bunch of people with a passion for Cobras.
