Sliding window designs?

I’m after any ideas or examples of sliding windows designs. The opening on the car is not a trapezium – it doesn’t have parallel upper and lower edges – and if I reshape the roof edge to achieve parallel Bailey tracks it will look completely out of kilter with the windscreen.

I don’t want one of those little sliders in the middle of the window like rally cars, etc.

First idea I have is to run a guide on the inside of the fixed front section but I’m concerned it will look a bit odd.

Make your lower tracks the same shape as upper tracks, weld them in lower into door frame so they slide along with a square shape window.

I considered that approach but I couldn't readily see how to overcome the weatherproofing issues it would create.

Trapezium = a muscle in the upper back and shoulder.

Trapezoid = a geometric shape.

Anyway, the sliding portion can really only be a little more than 1/2 the length of the window. The bottom will be flat, and parallel to the top of the door. That will be what the sliding portion actually slides on.

The top and front portion can match the top and front shape of window frame, and that's where the window would seal to.

The back 1-2" of the sliding portion would be parallel to the bottom. And the back portion of the sliding frame would also be parallel to the bottom frame.

Once the window is slid open that first 1/2" or so, it's sliding on the entire bottom edge, but only the top 1-2" or so. The top only keeps the window from falling out.

Bob - In the world outside of the USA it is a geometric shape... Just another example of the US bastardising the English language.

I've modified the design such that the top 50mm of the fixed pane/sheet would extend to the rear of the window opening. This should allow me to attach a guide the full length of the window and ensure a secure retention of the rear, trapezium shaped, sliding pane/sheet.

Hi,

I'm not sure if you are looking to make the entire window moving, but the overall shape is actually ok for window drop. If you take the shape, the back is nicely angled for the glass to run in it. What you'll find is that the total height will need to drop into the door, or else a small portion will point up. The other point to remember is the regulator mechanism direction of action is the same as the side you pick (in the above case the back side). If you use the back side, you'll find once the window is closed, it will push into the channel nicely. The front channel is the same angle as the rear one, inside the door. That means when the window is partly down it'll actually still hold the door.

If you run a half window, and no channel, I'd guess it'd whistle.

Sorry, I didn't make it clear in the first post, but I want horizontal sliding windows similar to a genuine GTO although they have the front section sliding.

the glass areas & frame are a one piece unit that bolts into your door frame
might be a help to call mini club near you they might have some owners with a frame to try for ideas

I have a set of the rally sliders and the Perspex dome end cover. Bit hard to explain. PM me if you are still stuck I will email you photos.

They can run up to 300mm in height by the full length of the door or sliders.

Ex UK rally supplier so quality is extremely good.

I have researched the Mini windows for hardware items but from a build perspective, the Mini opening has parallel top and bottom guides making sliding windows easy to install.

I searched for 20 minutes for that thread and couldn't find it - it popped up straightaway on Google. Some really useful information, thanks. He attached extra guides top and bottom when he probably could have got away with just one, which is probably the way I'll go.
