Enclosed Car Transport
Hi All
Can anyone give me the contact details of a good cheap enclosed car transporter? A mate of mine has just bought a Shelby Super Snake in Melbourne and needs it transported to Qld asap.
I used Russell's Enclosed Car Transport Services to transport my GT40 from SA to Qld 2 years ago and found them both cheap and very dependable but I can't seem to raise them on the phone. Not sure if they are still in business or not.
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!

Marksy40,good and cheap may be a bit hard to find. A lot of the lotus guys used CEVA. There's also a few specialised guys you'll find in the back of Unique Cars etc which may be of help. But I'd expect not cheap. Although if your shipping a $100k car and it costs you 2% of that to ship with exclusive confidence I'd say that's cheap.
A Shelby Super Snake ain't cheap so perhaps its all relative. I've used Carways before but not sure if they offer enclosed service.
Next year I'm going to be starting my own little cottage business offering enclosed transport just to Cobra/GT40 guys for when they need to move their cars....Whether it be build stage or whatever...while it won't be cheap...it will be direct, insured, specialised, 1 off and door to door. Drive in or winch in. It's just a little exclusive offering to the cobra/Gt40 guys.
Won't be too much help to you now though I'm afraid.

Thanks Spook, that's a help! When I say cheap I'd expect around $2-$3K which is what the '40' cost. Compared to others it was very reasonable.
It's reasonably urgent that I get something arranged as my mate has cancer and the Super Snake was a dream of his that has finally come true, all we need to do is get it up here.
I will look into CEVA and check out unique cars, thanks for the suggestions Spook.
If anyone else has some ideas I'd appreciate you letting me know.
Cheers
Deano

Try Carnut Transport. I got a quote to shift a cobra from Mid Nsw coast to Cairns for $1600. Not 100% sure if it is enclosed though.

I got the Super Snake booked with CEVA for $1,270 Melbourne to Brisbane on an enclosed trailer fully insured to a value of $180K. Bargain price considering the others I contacted were upwards of $1800.
Thanks to all you guys that responded, your advice was greatly appreciated.

Just curious - wouldn't you already have full comp insurance after taking ownership or do the insurers have an exclusion clause in this situation?

I'm not 100% sure Sambo but I believe you need separate insurance for transportation by a carrier. That's the impression I had anyway as all the quotes I received included insurance.
Just for information purposes, I emailed a request for a quote from CEVA but grew impatient then phoned for one over the phone. They quoted $1,270 by phone then I received an email back with a separate quote for $2,400! Huge difference but I verified all points were correct such as vehicle type, enclosed transporter, insurance value, etc.
The lesson here is always phone and ask questions! I also arranged for the car to be picked up in suburban Melbourne for an extra $120 which I though was very reasonable.
Cheers
Deano
