Tire shine

It seems I have tried all the available tire shine's there is but most people

Seem to have a better looking shine than I do

What do people use and who can recommend what?

I like the shiny wet look ( on the tires )

I have used tyre shine silicone spray from cheap as chips it doesn't last long but looks great good for black plastic mirrors etc as well

I have used 303 and Armorall on mine and it makes them shine and look wet but it doesn't last long as the dust here is bad and sticks to it and dulls the shine. But if you are at a show and no dust, put it on at the show and it should last for the day.

Stiffy this is what I use;

ENDURANCE TYRE PROTECTANT GEL (HIGH GLOSS) | Meguiar's

The Meguiars thick stuff and use one of their applicator pads. Keep the pad dedicated to the task in a baggy as it gets messy.

I just use the regular tyre foam. Not super glossy but I think it looks more natural than some of the others and it doesn't get gluggy. Meguires stuff mentioned above is good also

I don't know about the products down under. But over here, I've seen assorted tire shine products destroy tires! The shine looks great, but most products also prevent tires from breathing & will rapidly increase cracking of the side walls. This happened to my Porsche Avons. As I didn't drive her that much one year & left her parked outside during the summer months. if you plan on using these products, be sure and really clean the products off your tires. If you plan to leave your ride exposed to the sun for any length of time. By length of time I mean weeks/month+, not days.

I scrub the tire clean, then take a bowl of warm water and add a reasonable amount of sugar. Wipe it on the tire but be careful not to get it on the rim. The tire looks like brand new and is shiny.

As Silversmith stated, many over the counter products have chemicals that pull out moisture in the tire and cause them to crack or turn brown in time. They work great for daily drivers where the product will get washed off in a week, but sitting in a garage, many are not real good.

Me too I never use tire shine...just clean the tire well.....years as a dealer .....that tire shine is messy......

I use Maguire's on my daily driver but that is a very narrow sidewall on 19" wheels. For the Cobra I plan on using something with a much lower gloss, like Griot's. Expensive, but the right look for a vintage look car with a high-profile sidewall.

I just put Mother's leather,vinyl and rubber cleaner/conditioner on mine. Looks better than tire shine and is probably good for the rubber.

Nice tip joyridin. Gotta love an environmentally friendly alternative! Might even be cheaper too.

My only problem where I live would be; do ants have shiny black backs en-masse? Cause I reckon they might cover my tyres overnight

I use automatic transmission fluid. So far, no sign of cracking.

I never had a problem on the tire. Get it on the rim and that is a different story as it turns sticky and evey bug in a 5 mile radius will be paying you a visit.

Of course I don't really have an ant problem where I live. It was -14 (Fahrenheit) on Sunday and Monday night, so they probably all bit the dust...LOL

theirs been a lot of good ideas but I use
natural bees wax ...just warm it in a bucket of water then rub it on & buff the access off
may use a bit of elbow grease but doesn't cause the tyre to crack
an old bloke that I meet at a vintage car show used it all his life [ passed away 2 years ago]
now I own the 36 hump back tourer the tyres only need a buff with a cloth now & again to bring them up

I use to be in the limo business and we just used silicone spray on our cars. I do the same on my cobra, but in the good old days on my S4 and then XU1 I used good old "Kiwi" Black boot polish - put it on with a brush and polish off with another , then buff with an old T-shirt.

I use mine too much to worry about tyre shine.
Just keep it all clean.

I am new to the forum, getting ready to build kit, I have been using the Zaino bros. products for 12 years, really good stuff, all products have sun protection in them.

I used a Turtle Wax product in a silver and black aerosol can this spring. It made a glassy shine that made my tires look like they were made out of porcelain. It was 'way too shiny for me. I spent 4 hours scrubbing it off. If shiny is what you like...I'd recommend this.

IMHO
Any time you put a shine/sealer product on your tires, you are sealing/blocking the pours of the rubber to create the shine. Rubber tires must breath! Unless they are Goodrich T/A's or the like. Then who cares; as they are junk anyway. I have yet to see a tire shine product that guarantee's no cracking! Be smart! If you have to use tire shine products. Don't leave these products on any longer than the show your going to! Remember, rubber tires are a nature based product & not ment to shine. Leave the shine to the chrome & paint!
