Default TR6060 Gearbox or VE Commodore Diff Tailshaft Flange

Info for anybody struggling with a direct mount flange to eliminate the "donut" on the TR6060 gearbox.

I found these billet flanges to suit the TR6060 Tri-Flange from Sonnax distributed by The Drive Shaft Shop driveshaftshop.com
TL35-ALFY-01, US$179

They positively locate over the spigot that protrudes on both the gearbox and VE commodore diffs for a centre alignment.

They suit a standard 1350 Spec Universal Joint Bearing.

They eliminate the need for T56 outputshaft conversion to TR6060 boxes or removal of the spigot on the VE diffs.

Cheers from Dave

I don't know if I need that or not yet Dave, but who doesn't like a nice bit of billet work!

Guy, we supply a billet adaptor as standard with our PACE 427 kit. Have dual purpose unit that suits both 6060 M10 & 6060 MG9 gearboxes.

Mrs.F.
I have seen some CV shafts on the driveshaftshop, with carbon fiber tubes looking pretty flash.
I really just forgot about that train of thought and got wound up in trying to find something off the shelf to fit without cutting off the spigot on the output shaft.
I'm committed now unless i want some nice blingy paper weights.

Look at it as a dual purpose paperweight.

Desktop paperweight and horizontal pen holder.

Solved.

Craig,
Any pics of the flange you have available ?
A local offering might be interesting to builders with the TR6060.

Leigh
Thats a coincidence, i have 2 pens as well.

I was weighing up the option of a mid-shifter relocation job on my T56 ($1200) to get rid of the linkages, versus a new TR6060 for around $3500 - plus whatever $$$ to adapt for the tail shaft.

The above options sound better than the conversion kit supplied Mal Woods which makes use of Ford Falcon parts. Heaven forbid!

I was fortunate with the GTO to be able to keep the gearbox and diff aligned to within 4 degrees (compound) and I have retained the rubber couplings at both front and rear.

I just did this. Not sure why it needs to be complicated and expensive

The gearbox and diff in post #1 have a tri-finger flange for the rubber couplings, I think that's the issue raised and addressed here.

Liam, did your diff and gearbox come with the conventional disc-faced flange or are they something you have swapped to?

Hi Peter, yes your right, that was the point, finding a way to eliminate the donut and the need to swap flanges, which require you to lob off the spiggot on the end of the output shaft.

Liam, the tailshaft i get will be same as yours, but just uni to uni, not the mounting flanges.
As per Peters reply, what gearbox do you have, and if its a TR6060, did you cut the spiggot off, or change to a T56 Shaft ?

Dave

My gearbox is late model t56 from the ve ss. It's identical to the tr6060 in that it has fixed flange output instead of the slip joint output shaft. It originally had the rubber donut on it. I threw the donut away and just bolted straight up to the flange on the gear box. I just took the part off the gbox into the local driveshaft shop and he matched it up with yoke he had there. I think he took the t56 flange and machined and drilled it to fit a standard size yoke then made me a shaft with a slip joint in it to allow for any movement in bushes. Can't remember what it all cost, but I think he charged about $600ish for the whole lot parts and labour assembled and balanced.

The guy that did my driveshafts also builds hotrods for people so isn't fazed with non standard parts. Most places wouldn't know what to do if they can't lookup a part in a catalogue and bolt it on.

Forgive my ignorance... and hopefully this is not off-topic.

Other than 5 vs 6 gears - what are the pros and cons of a TR6060 vs a TKO500 or 600?

Thanks

Tony

The pro for me was it was hanging off the back of the LS3 i bought, otherwise i probably would have bought a T56.
Other Pro that i hadnt consider at the time was the simple change to mid shift without machine mods. Otherwise i dont really know what the differences are.

Fair point Dave

If I had an LS3 with one hanging off it I think I would be happy too...
