Default Shell Advert

Here's a link to a Shell commercial shown in Europe.

Ostensibly they're selling fuel but the cars used in the video steal the show.

Ferrari pulled several of their race cars from various ages out of storage, flew them around the world and filmed them running through the streets of Rome, Rio, New York, Hong Kong, Honolulu and Monaco and the Sea Bridge in NSW.
The best part is the sound from the basso-profundo notes of the early, front-engine era, each scene cuts to a later generation, ending with the wail of a modern F1 car.

Even if you're not a gearhead, this video will stir the soul. There's something about 3 litres and 14,000 RPM!

Just imagine the red tape, permits and cost to pull off this commercial.....

Way cool and a great way to start the morning.

I enjoy these productions, like with the Ken Block ones in San Fran and LA..... can only imagine what is needed to close roads and the like.

Great footage and sounds. I like it at the end when the engineer with the stop watch says "Hmm, non male"...."Hmm, not bad"
Cheers,
Glen

Wake up Jeff... that ad has been around since 2007.

Just another example of Cobra guys lagging behind Ferrari gentlemen!

Greg

Great ad! Reminds me of the Rendezvous short film. i guess a bit more red tape these days though compared with what Claude Le Louch dealt with (i.e. none!)

Peter, Greg has been planning and building cars since around 2007. No time for TV!!

I remember an advert in the 70s that had a cobra driving off into the sunset. I can't remember if it was for castrol or caltex though and can't find it on youtube.

Oh! I remember that ad...for my money you simply cannot beat the sound of the late sixties and seventies F1 cars before they had wings. I remember as a kid turning on the start of the film "Grand Prix" and turning up the sub-woofers WAY high!

There's a still of the Ampol ad for sale at the carpartsandmore site. Could someone link it to here as I don't know how to. I found it by searching "Ampol ad cobra".
The ad was released around the mid eighties.

Ta muchly

Dave
