Default Race Cobra For Sale

Just posting this on the forum for Geoff.

https://www.my105.com/ListingDetails/id/17203/latest/1

As mentioned Geoff is playing with the big boys now and has purchased a MARC Car of Ryan Mcleod. He certainly enjoys his motorsport.

Default Race Car

SpookyPT,

I saw Geoff at Sandown on Sunday (he does tend to stand out)

and was wondering what he was doing there, now I know.

I think the MARC cars concept is a great idea, lowish cost main

game motorsport. They went well at the Bathurst 12 hour in February.

Geoff's car is a lot of car for the price...........

Sure is, but before anybody gets all starry-eyed about the fun of competing in what is undoubtedly a well-proven race car, you should ask yourself do you have the purchase price X 3 at your disposal?

You'll need to buy the weapon itself, then you'll need a trailer and tow vehicle and you'll need somewhere to garage the race car and the tow vehicle (and maybe the trailer) then you'll need heaps of space to work on the car, assuming you have the necessary mechanical expertise and time and equipment to do this. A hoist would be nice. Then you need some guys to help out on race weekends, and ideally with race prep on a regular basis between meetings. An unpaid crew with race smarts is hard to find, so you're going to be up for professional help a lot of the time. More dollars. All the while you'll be working to pay the bills. It's hard to front up for work after you've pulled virtually an all-nighter on a week night, and it's doubly hard to concentrate on what you're being paid to do when all you can think about is whether your parts will arrive in time for the next meeting, or whether the guy you're paying to do some work is going to get sidetracked with other jobs coming into his shop. Everyone wants their stuff done today!!! and you're just another one in the queue. The only one who thinks you're deserving of special help is you. Then if your partner is OK with a large chunk of the household budget going on your (selfish, let's face it) obsession in the form of consumables, spares breakages etc when the kids' school fees are due, and if you need a set of wets just as the rego for your other cars comes in, and if you can accept that the amount of time you spend actually doing it, that is actually being out on the track RACING, is about .5% of the time you are otherwise involved with the race car, then just jump in and have a ball. Just be sure that you have the wherewithal to do the job to a level that will give you satisfaction and success.

Many years ago I raced a Centaur clubman. Out on the track, it was the best feeling of my life. It wasn't the quickest and I certainly had nowhere near the budget that many guys, even at this basic level of motorsport, had at their disposal, but I loved it. I only raced for a couple of years because I simply couldn't afford to continue. I'm glad I did it but I admit I went into it without a clue as to how all-consuming in so many facets of your life having a race car can be.

I hope Geoff's fantastic car goes to someone who can do it justice, who can campaign it in the manner in which it deserves, and who derives untold amounts of fun and excitement and satisfaction from owning and competing in a car that many would aspire to.

It is indeed a lot of car for the money.

I was thinking last night a bit more about this topic.

I'd not had a great start to race car ownership. Having 1/2 shared with Scotty for a year or 2 I took the plunge and bought my own car out from the states. It was a handful (trying writing with your opposite hand!) and after my first outing the engine needed a rebuild. Ouch. Apart from the disappointment of that the learning curve needed was almost beyond me (I'm no grease monkey) and I'm not afraid to say its had me in tears on the odd occasion.

Not afraid to say it got me pretty down and I ended up spending a few hours with a head doctor to talk about it. She said, what are YOU REALLY worried about? And I said crashing!!!

She said, 99% of things you worry about never happen, and when they do, you worry about it then...not before.

So off I went thinking I'll be right, just persist it'll be fine yadda yadaa.

On my fist out lap after having bedded the engine on the dyno the day before post engine rebuild this happens..... I'd love to say it was driver error but as you can see...sometimes it can just happen.

After the engine rebuild, learning curve, crash, and multiple failures Im still going because I want to be as good as ""I" can be at driving and I want the car to perform as it should.

This is the reason I now have motorsport insurance me and my car! when Im on track

My life would be simple without cars and motorsport, I'd have a lot more money but I'd be BORED and relatively unchallenged. My race car and I have a lot to achieve and I'm making every effort to avoid giving up too early. LOL

I remember that well....
And about 2 seconds into that film clip is where I was flat spotting those tyres in the above pic...
Not a lucky spot I'd say.
At least you weren't hurt...that could've been a LOT worse Spook.
Cheers

Car sold! Turn key to good home to serious racer.

For those oldie club members who know Stu Maxwell (sports Sedan) his son Cameron who also racer SS has purchased it and will be running it this weekend at QR if anyone wants to see how it goes.

I don't think we'll see it sadly at the Nats again.

Its gone to a good home and will be used for its intended purpose so happy days.
