Anyone know a good fibreglass repairer?
Hi,
I committed the ultimate rookie error today.
I rolled into the car in front of me when turning left.
Was driving down to Rye – Mornington Penninsula this arvo and just creeping forward thinking the car in front had taken off, but she changed her mind when I looked sideways – then bang.
Looks like luckily the overrider took the brunt of it and was pushed into the fibreglass. The overrider bracket attach point is a little bent but that’s about it I think. One of the Bonnet hinges broke too - but I can quickly repair that.
I don’t know anything about fibreglass repairs but it “doesn’t look too bad” to me. Who knows.
At least the front will need a respray and my patina will be gone.
Looks like Shannons will be getting a call from me after the long weekend.
Be careful out there. Cheers Gregg

Greggy if it broke the bonnet hinge it might be slightly worse than it looks...who cares, small damage really and now you get a fresh re-spray front. Don't wait to call Shannons though, log it sooner rather than later.

thanks guys. Logged claim with Shannons online tonight.
had a good look under bonnet and chassis etc looks ok.
Repaired bonnet hinge and that part is ok.
Replaced headlight I had from a spare. (from an old stone chip etc)
My original painter does fibre glass too I think.
Will chat to Shannons next week to work out next steps.
Overall not too bad, could have been worse. Nobody got hurt.
Cheers Gregg

Hi Gregg,
I do fibreglass repairs and paint Cobras at my shop Paintwerks located in Moorabbin.
We've been working with Shannons for the past 9 years and have a great relationship with them as a repairer. I have a TVR Cerbera in my shop right now that is a Shannons job needing fibreglass repair and paint (has become a full colour change respray at the owner's request). We also repair race cars, fit/modify bodykits and composite motorcycle fairings.
My own Pace had a disagreement with a trailer ramp late last year. I can confidently report that the fibreglass repair is undetectable. I've attached images below, but feel free to come and have a look in person if you like (my car is in Bentleigh over the weekend).

Double G
Mate between Sime and Greg you've got both the repairs and paint covered though I'm not sure whether Greg is all that keen on insurance dealings these days.
Seems you didn't recall your Jedi training though mate -
Obi-Wan: But Master Yoda says I should be mindful of the future.
Qui-Gon Jinn: But not at the expense of the moment.
Hmm that moment being let the car in front go first - DoH
A speedhump in the road of life.
Cheers

Simon thanks heaps for your offer etc. I did recall your little incident when I had a look at the Nationals and then the finished product at the shed run the other day looked awesome.
I lodged my claim with Shannons last night so will give you a call once I hear from them.
I know my original painter Greg is pretty busy with a bit of a line of cars at present.
Slowy - you are very wise oh Jedi master. :-)
Thanks everyone for your suggestions - thats what this site is about.
cheers
Gregg

She's back all shiny and new looking
Just a quick update to close things off.
Simon from Paintwerks did the crash repairs plus some other scratches I had inflicted over the 8 years of Road and Track and painted the whole car. Shannons basically paid for the front half and I paid for the back plus some other touch ups such as moving the mirrors from the mud guards to the windscreen etc. Shannons were good to deal with and I am very happy with the result.
I'd like to thanks Simon for his great work and attention to detail.
It is finished in the same colours/stripes etc but we used a new clear coat (I cant recall the name) that gives it a deeper "wet-look" and is meant to be more durable.
I will be getting the front clear film protection in Oct timeframe to try and preserve thing a bit more too.
Glad to have it back on the road - although Melb weather is not being kind to Cobras at present.
Couple of pics below but more in my gallery if you're interested.
cheers Gregg

Yes but only on the drivers side - the passenger side is still pretty useless.
