NSW Rego for old Cobra
Hi Guys,
Posting the question for my brother who previously built and owned a G-Froce Cobra built on the Toyota Crown chassis ( shortened).
One of the same has come up for sale in NSW that has him interested. Apparently it has previously been registered (last time in 2006) and the current owner has the engineers reports etc.
It is my understanding that in NSW if this was to be rebuilt and registered then it would come under the compliance of an ICV. Therefore I believe it would almost be impossible to have it registered in NSW.
Is this in fact correct ?
I would hate to see my brother throw money at something, put his heart and soul into and then not be able to have it registered.
Advise would be welcomed.
Andrew

Contact Treeve Andrews on this site. He is a NSW engineer, he should tell you what your chances are.
Cheers

Just a heads up, there's only one of me, so there's no 's' on Andrew. My name is back to front looking, Treeve is my first name and Andrew my last name.
I haven't seen an email though - check you have sent it to the correct email address or PM me on here.
Thanks for the recommendation guys.

Just a heads up, there’s nothing difficult about registering cars in NSW that already have VINs and have been registered before. New builds are a little harder but hopefully by March next year this should be resolved too.

March 2020. Although right now I'm not holding my breath - this all hinges on release of the updated Brake Assessment Manual, and we are patiently waiting for it to be signed off by the 'powers that be' in NSW. Once it is approved I've put my money where my mouth is and already spent $6,000 on additional testing equipment (on top of the $30k I've already spent) to be able to conduct the testing to what I understand is in the new Brake Assessment Manual.
Other than that I've managed to get cars through everything except the brake testing, so I know NSW ICVs can be done - once this manual is out.

Updated Brake Assessment Manual released
The updated brake assessment manual has been released:
https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents...ent-manual.pdf
From my reading of it, the ABS failure test is not required for ICVs. I assume this then means that ABS is not mandatory for ICVs ?

AHAHAHA what a joke this has turned out to be.
Ian Davis of Rodbods.com.au took it upon himself to complain for the hotrodders and got the second revision rescinded. So just because it's out, doesn't mean it'll be out for long. They didn't even consult the certifiers, and what it means is that we will now be waiting even longer to get a brake assessment manual that we can use. So you can say a big "**** you" to Ian "Elvis" Davis, for looking after his self interest and putting us all back. Probably won't happen in 2020 now. I'm done, I'll maybe think about doing another car when I've finished mine. Give it 4-6 months.

Now you see it...now you don't!!
Brake Assessment Manual dated March 2020 has been replaced with Brake Assessment Manual dated July 2017. Funny about that........

hooray for hotrodders.
Luckily I don't really care because I'm not doing ICVs.
Heard today that Ray Sargaent (yes, that is how he spells it) is quoting people $50k to do an ICV in NSW.

no, just his price to do the certification.
Meanwhile, you can get it done in other states for $2k.

Hi Treeve and group.
Im a newby wanting to undertake my first ICV (Cobra 427). Has the NSW registration process resolved itself? Or is it still very difficult to obtain a VIN and (unrestricted) Rego? Thanks in advance.
