Aluminium/aluminum body, who manufactures them in Australia.
During Sundays All Ford Day there was some discussion about importing an aluminium/aluminum body into Australia from across the pond.
Does anyone know of an Australian manufacturer..
Any information on the company, price and product quality would be appreciated.
Thanks
Bernie

Bernie...I'm of the belief that G-Force will supply aluminium bodies. In fact on page 39 of the latest Snaketales it says so in their full page advert.
Middle of the page it says....427 AC Cobra bodies aluminium bodies available.
Give them a ring on 08 9331 2509 in WA.
Cheers

Thanks Les,
I usually get my Snaketales after all of the events are over - calendar - and find I only flick through it.
Will have another look. Thanks

Two reasons for you to get the info Bernie
1. Us Banana benders have enough trouble talking to Victorians let along those in the west.
2. You own one of those franchise which is like owning a money machine so you can pay for the call.

Thanks Les.
I usually make all my interstate calls and international calls when at the Council office waiting for the Council building staff...
Their phone on the counter is quite handy and useful..

One Austaralian manufacturer found..
Ok here's the heads up on what is available in Australia.
I have made a number of phone calls (some at the Council desk) and found that the only aluminium/aluminum body manufactured here is by 'G Force Sports' cars in Western Australia. Thanks to Rebel 1 for the lead.
They supply a body in aluminium and chassis for $37,000 at March 2005.
The body is attached and braced etc. to the chassis and is therefore not available in body only.
There are a few aluminium bodies here already. The guy at G Force mentioned a CSX4000 series car imported by an Aussie in Sydney. He thought it was a Shelby (could it be a Kirkham?)
I recently had a good look over an aluminium body Cobra that was built by John Olsen from New Zealand. It is owned by a well known Victorian motorcycle business man.
So if its an aluminium body you want, then G Force appears the way to go. $37,000 sounds reasonable for the body and chassis when you compare to the US prices plus import, Handling, Duty, Customs, Tariffs etc etc. This can double the US stated price.
Got me thinking now..
Cheers

I'm going to start a new "Thread" to see who has an aluminium bodied Cobra and who has a genuine CSX numbered Cobra in Australia.
I will get Ned from San Diego to come on and see what he can add. He is the Shelby American Auto Club archives/historian for Shelby.
Just for some interest. I'm sure some 'forum' hoppers will know of some genuine Cobras...
No addresses given..
Cheers

Where i work (link below ) could quiet easily make an alluminium body to suit any chassis for around 30 g but less if there was more than one order .
Havent done a Cobra yet but do a tr250 ferrari ( see web link )
and could easily do cobra and could use my Harrison for making buck .

Bernie, Without knowing the details ( thickness/grade of aluminium, workmanship, etc) I think that price is quite acceptable.
The big advantage would be the Australian engineered chassis ( assuming it has been beam tested etc).
I just can't see many of the American chassis meeting Australian specs.
Very interesting. Thanks for following that up.

Paul, Kirkham make a specific chassis to accomodate their alloy body. The structure required to support the body is WAY different to that used for the glass cars. Would you be factoring in the chassis for that price? I would LOVE to hear more info about that Ferrari, but I won't hijack this Cobra thread. I want to see more alloy bodied Cobras in Australia, and I'm very interested to see how this thread ends up.

Craig
I was talking to the boss a few months ago about this cause he wants to see if there is a market for it as we have the tooling to do a cobra out of alluminium . He was saying that for 30g you would get something that looked like a kirkam body fitted to your chasis .But we can also do a fully approved space frame chasis to suit as that is what is under the Ferrari ( Awsome ) .
