P/N for column-mounted turn signal switch assy
I need to replace my turn signal switch assembly on chassis 168. I think it is a VW Beetle 66-67 switch but am not sure. Anybodyt know the correct part number?
Yes I've searched both here and at Backdraft Boys. No I haven't removed it yet because I can make it work until I get a new one. I called Reg at BDR but no one's home today.
Thanks

I believe this is what you are looking for. Saw someone else post this as a replacement once. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/66-67...ht_1334wt_1258

ACDELCO Part # E6205A
STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # TW33
AIRTEX Part # 1S7267
No guarantees because all these companies have a tendency to put other things in the boxes. But it's a start. You have to grind out the inside some to clear the factory column size.

Thank you Cashburn, Two and True:
I went to my local VW parts store, secured an OEM replacement for a 66-67 Beetle, ground down the i.d. (as others have reported necessary), and got it installed last night. I don't know if they are all like this, but the OEM switch assembly is much more substantial than the cheesy lightweight switch assembly that came with the car. Costs a lot more, too. Worth it imho.
Thanks

When it comes to VW parts you can choose the quality level by where the part is made. Usually on the turn signals you can choose:
1. China
2. Mexico
3. Brazil
4. Germany
etc.
You will pay more for the German, but you will buy 1.

I know Shelby was using the VW unit on their CSX4000 series cars. It's a non-cancelling, right-hand side assembly.

The VW unit is canceling if you setup the hub properly...

Been on the sidelines for a long time, with major health issues. Mike, you are right and not right. The unit is self cancelling if you drill and tap a small screw into the shaft where the self cancelling pawls are. I didn't have a hole in my column so I drilled and tapped and slipped a very small headed stainless phillips screw in there and it now cancells.
