Default BDR sidepipe covers

Do the BDR side pipe covers come off easily? And is it possible to hide the fact they were removed? I looked at a few BDR's but, I'd prefer the smooth sidepipes with no covers. Is it possible to remove the covers and hide any trace of them?

Thanks in advance,

Depends... If they are coated it is tough because they are generally scratched from the clamps. If they are still stainless you can usually sand and polish out the marks.

I need the four hole gaskets between header and sidepipe.

Is this a universal item or a BDR unique item.

Thanks,

Russell

I have the BDR Heat Shields on my Factory Five with Stainless Steel pipes from Gas-N. The shields are a simple clamp on and come off in less that five minutes. I put a layer of header wrap under the clamp to avoid scratching. However, the wrap changes the temperature so they discolor differently where the wrap/clamps are. Might polish out, but never had a need to try.

I polished my stainless clamp marks out like Jay said, put the covers back on after too many burns on adults who apparently dont understand "watch the sidepipes when u get out" instructions.

Rpatton-I used the high temp copper silicone which has held up fine-I took my headers/pipes apart and found the gaskets were missing and were not readily available so I used the copper silicone and no prob's.

Thanks for your help! Nothing is like getting advice from somebody who has "been there and done that."

Happy Groundhog Day!

I'm going to second leaving the shields on. I took them off and liked the looks of the clean polished side pipes.....but it's just to dangerous. My ah-ha moment came when our small pup ran up to the car after I got back from a drive and put his front pawn on the pipe. He had done that before on the heat shield with no problem, this time was a mess. Recovered nicely but the shields are back on for good and I'm getting used to the looks just fine.

You can get the gaskets from BDR in FL. I've also heard from others that the hi temp RTV works well.

The first thing I dumped on my BDR was the ugly shields. I'm very specific with my entry and exit directions for passengers. I tell anyone who wants to go for a ride that they have to hear the Cobra ingress/egress briefing first. If they don't like it. they don't get in my car.

Wayne, you let your puppy run around your hot Cobra? WTH man? What if he jumps his little paws up on the headers where there's no shield? For that matter, what if he jumps on the paint? Cobras, especially hot ones, are no place for anything/one who doesn't understand that "hot burns" or "stay away from the nice stuff."

I'm in the stages of fitting heatshields, Do you recommend heatshield material between the sidepipes and body, I have about 1/2"from the body, to the pipes. Would it help if you wrap the whole side pipes in cloth then fit the heatshield?

Default Gaskets are on their way

Ready for some warm weather. Thanks!

I can hardly wait to hear 3" straight through stainless packed mufflers.
