Default Clutch Slave

We hadn't been in the Cobra lately, so I fire it up and back out of the garage and into the alley. Push the clutch in and no pressure. Finally get it in gear put it back into the garage and see this.

Talk about the pushrod out of align. I had replaced the slave a couple of years ago and just flushed and bled the system a couple of weeks ago. I haven't had time to crawl underneath but it looks like the pushrod may have broken. Anyone else have this happened?

Thanks.

Looks like it has worn and punched the push rod through the end of the fork.

I drilled a tight hole through the arm and put a #8 bolt through to allow a pivot. I then made an adaptor block out of key stock and threaded one end, put the same size hole in the other.

Sorry, I do not have pics.

Hope this helps.

I have had the pushrod unscrew from the piston on a Willwood slave cylinder a couple of times.

I just had my clutch bled. Photos would be useful for us that can not do our own wrenching.
Thanks.

I wonder if this has been corrected on newer cars or if a kit is available.

When you replace the slave, make sure the push rod is pushing straight. Might have to make a new bracket to get the right alignment. I had to on mine.

Actually, on examining the photo a little further, there appears to be two slots where the slave mounts to the bracket allowing for proper adjustment.

Could the clutch fork have been pulled off the ball pivot? If so, perhaps you could push it back on and determine what caused it to be pulled off.

I just put on my 4th slave tonight (Mazda B2600) since my car was new...hmmm about 4,000 miles and 7 years! Heat shield was added, fluid annually flushed with the same piss poor result of parts failure from too much heat where the master is located. A poor engineering design. Thank God I can work on my own car and the slave is only $12.99 at advance auto parts.
Never had a pushrod problem and mine is just a mickey mouse piece of threaded rod with a couple of washers...from the factory that way! (But it works).

Cheers ya'll!

Is there a list of parts like this so I will know what to use?
I found out by accident rear shocks are VW beetle.
Front tie rods are RX-3, I think.

I added a heat wrap to my master and slave.

I would love to get a list of parts used (based on car number).

Well I finally got around to replacing the slave and replacing the pushrod with one from Rosehill.

Rosehill Performance Parts

Much better than the cut off bolt and washers that were originally used by Backdraft. Mick was right, the end of the bolt wore down and slipped over. Also it need more adjusting out which I couldn't do with the threads on the old rod all mashed down. The slave over entended and the piston came out.

Works great now.

One thing I thought of AFTER I got everything back together was I should have replaced the rubber hose to the slave with a stainless steel braided hose. Being somewhat AN hose/fitting challenged, does anybody know what size hose and fittings go on the BDR slave and clutch line?

Thanks.

I've been having troubles with the clutch getting stuck all the time. Bleeding fixes it for a little bit, but it quickly gets worse again. I suppose leaky slave or master? Would the heat wrap help keep the slave in better condition? Where can i buy this?

You know...i fought this pedal getting spongie and going to the floor on my BRD #260, heat boiling the brake fluid??? it boils at 475*f...man that is hot...I don't think this is the issue. If it was...you'd have brake issue also...correct? (I shielded the line and master cylinder...still had the problem) Mis-alignment of slave to clutch fork...you bet, but even fixing that it still failed in short order. What fixed mine was the double seal piston on the slave. Yep, it got the standard U cup....and an "O"ring seal. mazda ??? with the bleeder on the top....sweet! it been 3 years and 7000 miles...same slave! all I can say is it worked for me!
