Default New Interior - Carpet to Leather

It took a few weeks to complete the first winter Cobra project. I ripped out all the stock carpet interior and replaced it with Imported Diamond Tufted Italian Leather. I had a local upholsterer put the panels in the seats and, of course, I have my expert seamstress wife to do the stitching. I even found a little doodad ring to finish off where the battery switch pokes through the carpet. The Meguiars Rich Leather really makes the material stand out.

By posting I'm assuming you're looking for comments both positive and negative.

On the positive side, it's a masterful piece of craftsmanship.

But, sorry to be Debbie Downer, but it doesn't work for me. Nor the carbon fiber dash. Too modern for me. Not necessarily bad just a matter of personal taste.

Default Comments

I post in case anyone would like to do it and I can offer them help. I do that with all the projects. I already received messages about cost of material and where I got it from. Comments are always appreciated. To understand where I am coming from, I have no interest in shelby authenticity. I never liked them when they came out. The car I own has no connection to them other then a vague copying of the body style. My goal is to make the car the best it can be using modern parts but keeping it simple. Respectfully submitted.

Fred

I am with Tony... definitely, this is not my cup of tea. I like the originality aspect of the hobby. That said, you and the Mrs. did a very nice job on it Fred! As long as you like it, that is all that matters.

I agree with you Fred G, and the others as well, (Nothing like being Wishi washy ) Your interior came out great, very nicely done (And your wife's help a huge plus ). I too lean a little more to the originality, so it comes back to its "Yours" and if it's makes you happy, that all that matters. None of us, have changed (damaged?) an original car, so no harm no foul. Looks like time well spent Cheers TommyRot.

It looks great. I have the same interior, however, the back deck area is carpet. I will follow your lead, unfortunately, my wife is not that handy.

Nice work. The carpet on the tranny tunnel is looking worn (slightly frayed) in my car. I might take on replacing it.

Default Worn carpet

Mine was starting to fray near the Ebrake handle. Adding the Ebrake recess should solve that.
