Default Registering in Montana with the MCO?

Anyone been able to register a Backdraft in Montana? The MCO says for year “1965 Replica”. Montana is telling me it has to say year manufactured, otherwise it will be a bonded title process. Any help would be appreciated.

Would the chassis number not reveal the car's true identity to authorities?

If it is mfg date it gets registered as new car. Prob 400 or 500 based on value. If it was really a 65 it woukd be registered for something like 25 with 5 year plates. Also tied to emissions if you have any.

Do you live in Montana?

If not please watch as government is cracking down on using Montana to avoid sales tax in their home state. I know several people who have been audited.

The legitimate way to use Montana as a home for your vehicle is that the vehicle must reside in Montana when titled for 3 months (I accept no responsibility for this advice).

Was going to use Montana to title new ERA Cobra. Not to save tax but because Florida makes you get safety inspection weigh in and jump through the highest hoops. Also see new Florida rules since 2023 if Montana car you must prove it was in Montana four 6 months or they won't title car.
If only Peter P. would register ERA with NHTSA and Florida Sunbiz both Superformance and Factory Five Racing are registered. It would make it so simple. Anyone title in Florida since 2023 rules change please explane what was required.

Subscribing, as the composite/replica/tax drama continues in CT. Not interested in the Montana thing, but comments on NHTSA / registration.

What are the details that make registration easier? Does it get you 1965 rules for emissions and safety?

CT (and most of New England) does not want you to have anything but an electric vehicle. Especially old gas guzzling emissions spewing cars.

In Florida (since 2023) if the kit car manufacture is registered with NHTSA and Florida Sunbiz you need The MSO a notarized Bill of Sale a simple catch all form with the REPLICA block checked and payment of the Tax and Title bill. This also makes the date of the car title the year Replica is built to resemble, also uses the identification # on the MSO as the VIN. If manufacture is not registered First your take the MSO, weight certificate, and notarized Bill of sale and simple form with KITCAR block checked to our DMV. They charge you the tax and give you a inspection date. Safety inspection first and verification of odometer. Safety inspections seem to cause the most problems do to uneducated techs. All this is done on a trailer or roll back. Please don't forget your insurance binder. Florida requires Florida car insurance. you also have to pay for each inspection and reinspection. When you are done you titie will show a Kitcar built on the date as new a new VIN #. Also during safety inspection some of the techs require engine, heads, trans any other major parts serial #"s so they can be checked against stolen parts. Most first inspections are failing anf people are looking for dates and times that the tech is just going through the motions such as a day before a holiday or Friday after lunch.
