SPF Battery
I have a Optima 34u in my Superformance from 2006. I've been reading that Optima has gone down hill in the last few years in the reliability department. mine is still functioning great, but I just don't trust a 7 year old battery for another season.....Any suggestions other than Optima?
Also...Where will breakfast be this Sat. Deb is out of town so I might get up at zero dark thirty and head over from Roseville. Tom

Kirkham uses oddyesee, don't know if I spelled it correctly, but if the Kirkham use it I use it, I do whatever they say when it comes to Cobras...

Tom - I replaced mine with an Exide ORB34M-36 after about 8 years. Turns out I had a slow battery drain, not a bad battery, thus my 2003 Optima was fine. I am still using that Optima elsewhere around the house and it works fine (10+ years old). Unfortunately the above Exide battery may no longer be available (at least at Amazon). One nice thing about my Exide is that it has another set of (smaller) terminals that I leave the pigtails from my trickle charger attached to. This battery does appears available on-line but has gotten to be a bit pricey.
Hope this helps a little.

Now I read this after changing my two 6 volt Optima battery's this morning. The old ones worked fine but 8 years old and I thought they should be changed. One good thing , they fit the battery box.

Braille. Works just fine. B3121 I belong to the "used to use Optima" crowd. A sealed Duralast gel mat works just fine too. The Braille is not 'plug and play' as it will require you to creatively secure the battery in the now over-sized battery compartment.

X2 on the Odyssey battery. My original lasted 11 years...even after 3 recoveries from a total drain situation. Worth the money.

Be aware that there is a wiring change in SPF cars for the voltage regulator circuit that cures an overcharging condition that is indicated by a bouncing ammeter gauge. This can ruin MSD ignition systems, coils and batteries. The fix is documented in the technical section at SCOF. Its for cars WITHOUT a 1 wire alternator.

My 12+ year old Optima Battery was not holding a charge well, so I replaced it with another one from Summit Racing - Yellow Top (Aug 2013). Wow! What a difference! Not only did it spin the starter motor faster, but it gave more "juice" to the ignition - this new battery really helped my engine start, warm or cold. There may be some who don't like Optima's any more, this one is working great for me.
Just a week ago I implemented the fix to the Voltage Regulator, as Steve-O describes above. Maybe not have that fix caused my 12+ year old Optima to die...

Sams Club; the best one they have.
I also own a Blown BBC car that has nearly 1k horsepower. Use the Sams club battery in it with out a fear.

Low and behold I had one of the new electronic load tests performed on it and it passed with flying colors. I brought it home and put it back in the SPF and did one of my Dad's 1960's style drain tests just for giggles.....I turned on the headlights for 30 minutes with a multimeter attached. After 30 minutes it still has 12.16 volts.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'm sure I'll have to get one in a year or two. Tom

Oddessy ( ODYSSEY battery - Official Manufacturer's Site) are great , we use them in all of our projects. Cobras Daytonas , etc.
be aware that not all of them are the same, if they have a MJ for the last 2 characters of the part number, that means they are metal jacketed, which is a good thing, and is about 30$-40$ more.
also be aware you might be in for terminals and any screw holes on the oddessy are METRIC.
PC-925MJ is a good part number to use, - especially with a gear-reduction starter.
if you need more push , you can put in a 1200/1500 series - check your dimensions
