S F Chronicle "My Ride" starring one of our own.
Gary - congratulations on making it as one of the featured vehicles in this section of the Chronicle. It is a nice article and wonderful pictures on the on-line version: Pilot enjoys attention AC Cobra attracts - SFGate. You and Ted have created an outstanding car, especially with its color scheme paying tribute to the World Champion SF Giants.
Like you implied, owning a Cobra is a big check mark on one's Bucket List. There aren't a lot of other cars out there that stir the emotions one feels when driving, hearing, smelling or looking at it.

Thanks Tom! All credit to Ted, of course, all I did was write the check.

Gary, you should have added the special "Bay Bridge" photos because those were great pics by Kirby! Congrats on the article.

I actually suggested it, but the Chronicle photographer was strangely uninterested...

Gary,
Great article, congrats!
For those that have not seen the article, here is a photo of Gary's orange machine at a local car show.

Gary,
Beautiful Car! Sounds like you are the same as the rest of us, you remember exactly when and where you saw your first Cobra and knew that some day you had to own one. I have a question, How do you like your Billboard tires? I would like to put a set on my car but I have read a lot of negatives about them. What's your experience?

I really like the Billboards. I'm a fairly experienced driver (raced Formula Fords in SCCA for 5 years in the '70s, SSA RX-7 for 4 years after that, then HPDE in M3, Lotus Elise, and C6 Z06 for the last 7 years) and I really like how sticky they are. As long as I feed in the power at a metered rate I can open the throttle in second gear...it wags the tail a bit, but I don't have to back off. Lots of tire smoke in my mirrors, though. That's with 650 hp, 2800 lbs car weight. Would not try that with street rubber. They do tramline a bit, and flatspot until they warm up, but I'd buy them again. That said I have not experienced the Avons, and some who have like them better than the BBs.

For those who aren't familiar\ with Kirby's Bay Bridge Photos, here's a couple (there's a lot more but I like these two) - warning - LARGE format.

Yeah, that was a fun shoot with Kirby. I also really like the shot from in front of the car, looking down at the hood, with the bridge disappearing in the background. The local school district actually uses that shot to teach one-point perspective in their art classes. I'd post it myself but can't figure out how to load a photo into the body of a post...

Gary,
Wow, Those bridge shots are awesome. You should have them blown up and framed. How did you manage to get shots with no traffic?

Oh, rest assured there are several on my walls in poster size. As with most things the photographer knows a guy who knows a guy...it's the old Bay Bridge span that's awaiting demolition.
