Default Fuel tank question.

I have a question, does anyone know what fuel tank was used for the 1991 CR’s? I’m thinking a foxbody Tank?

They were made by Tankcraft in Wisconsin.
It’s a big company, industrial and still in business.
If you turn it into a trunk mount sealed fuel cell the bevel angle fits the inside trunk floor perfectly.

Thanks for the information, I’ll reach out to the manufacture and see if they still have the specs and could they make me one out of Aluminum. If not I’ll find a fab shop have me build a custom one.

When you build your fuel cell (if that is what you choose to do), instead of using the usual foam interior to mitigate fuel slosh, consider an egg crate-style baffling for the tank.

While the foam does an excellent job of controlling slosh, over time, it deteriorates and clogs the tank and fuel system with decomposing foam particles. Regular fuel cell maintenance and foam replacement prevent this from occurring. On a street-driven car, this maintenance can be an unwelcome challenge and expense. The egg crate-style in-tank baffling will eliminate unwanted fuel slosh and nuisance foam replacement regimens.

The egg crate-style baffling does not need to be welded in to work. In fact, the non-welded installations work very well.

A closing thought on tank material. While aluminum provides a desirable weight savings, for a race car, it is much more susceptible to physical damage than if you made your tank out of sheet stainless. The stainless is easier to weld, almost as easy to bend, and much more resistant to accidental damage.

I too would recommend avoiding a foam type fuel cell. Unless you are tracking your car it performs no function other than to deteriorate and add cost later. Mine was about to expire (I would have done it preemptively) and instead of redoing the foam I would have gone with a baffled tank. As I recall someone here actually converted the SAI fuel cell...

There are several companies that make custom tanks. I found them researching bolt in/weld in efi tank cutouts to retrofit my tank. I'd have to dig around for the info. Also remember the aftermarket fuel cells typically use a Chevy fuel sender, so ohms matter depending on your gauges.
These guys have flanges and tanks pre-built for Factory Five roadsters, would not be much of a stretch. Our tank is really simple. Mine is still out on a shelf.

I am still building mine and the tank is not installed yet. I can take measurements for you so one can be made. Let me know.

I have a drawing with the dimensions for the tank that came with my car. Maybe this will help. Picture can be opened on Hardfacer member page. [IMG][/IMG]

FWIW: I had the custom aluminum tank for my Cheetah built by RCI racing from my drawing. They can make just about any shape as long as it is made from flat sheets of aluminum. They don't do 3D curves.
