Default Soft top window channel

I was thinking of making a bikini type top (like a jeep) for my cobra. I don't have a soft top and have never seen the channels involved to mount it to the windshield. I do have a full width rollbar so that end is no problem. If someone could post a clear picture of the channels or have any ideas that might help, it would be appreciated.

Thanx,
Greg

Greg,
The top that I have does not have a channel for the window. I have never had it on but it looks like there might be some sort of threaded sliders that go into the groove on the top of the windshield frame. The top has an aluminum bracket that has some slots in it that you then would attach it to the windshield with pan head screws.

DV, does that sound about right? Or do I have my head where the sun doesn't shine.

Terry

I'm not sure how this is going to come out, but we'll try.

You can see the channel in this photo. In the center of the channel the bow is split. On each side there is a small "t" head pin that fits into a channel on the top of the windshield frame. You notice the two wings on the sides. Those slide down firmly over the windshield frame and clamp to hooks that are premounted on the side of the windshield frame.

You can just see the pins in the bottom of the frame.

Terry,
You have one of the older but definatley better tops. You should have a plastic bag with "T" bolts in it. Small black allan head screws (8x32's?) and the same amount of brass T's. The brass T's do slide into the grove on the top of the windshield then the screws are installed and should go tight against the windshield frame with about an 1/8" sticking up. This is what your slots of the top will slide into. You may have to grind off a very small amount of the sides of the "T" to get them to fit. Seems that some where just a little to wide to slide in place.
DV

DAN:That's a completely different top than what Terry has-looks like a newer style?

DV,
The top that I have is the one MACOBRA was selling. The one with the hinge pin missing in the middle and you told him to just use a pin from a pop rivet. I did not receive any "T"'s with the top. Do you have any pictures of the "T" with the screw (hopefully also a picture with it installed on the windshield also). Also do you know where I can purchase them.

"EDIT"
Greg,
I added spicures to my photo gallery of the groove in the windshield frame and a couple of the bracket on the top.

Thanks, Terry

The slot is made to fit a rivet head. A nail head is almost exactly the same thing.

Cobra Guy,
I've been on the road now for three years and other issues always seemed more important. In short I haven't pursued the bikini top. Got a friend with an upholstry shop though. Maybe he'll get a visit today.

I sold my top quite a while back but if you click on the camera under my user name and fine picture IMG_2204_small, these are the T-nuts that fit the windshield slot.

I dont have anymore, they went with the top.
