Default My late father owned 2 cobras CSX2119 and raced CSX2459

Prior to my arrival in this world my parents owned two Cobras
I noticed several posts about gauge layouts by Jeffy and PDUB about dash layouts and wanted to offer any help I might be able to dig up as far as photos of CSX2459
When my father campaigned it in 1967-68.

I wish we had them!!!!
My dad sold the street car in 1967 and crashed the race car in 1968 choosing to place an Ad stating he was parting out competition cobra in Competition Press in 1969. I learned that from the 1997 Cobra registry.

Default I posted some more photos in album section

Well I hope they posted anyway-enjoy! CSX2459 was sold originally to lew as a Usrrc car Lew made it street legal wheen he sold it 1966 (after racing it in 1965z) to a young man in Montana. He painted it solid yellow at that point. My father learned the car was sold after the fact and went to the guy in Butte and bought it within as matter of weeks.

I have no idea what Lew Florence did to the car during this street legal conversion. It certainly is possible he may or may not have changed the dash set up? I have no way of knowing.

I know my dad raced it with Webers.

JIM BARGELT painted CSX2459 shortly after buying it

Jim Hacker (pictured here) was a parner briefly of Bargelt's in purchasing CSX2459 in 1967

Lew Florence sold CSX2459 for street use- Bargelt bought it in Nov of 1966.

When Bargelt bought CSX2459 Lew Florance had converted car to be used on the street. Not sure if Lew altered the dash during that brief transformation

March 1967 -Bargelt owned both CSX2119 (Green) and CSX2459 (yellow)

Jim Bargelts Cobras in 1967- CSX2119 (green) and CSX2459 which was yellow for first few months

Chet Cook owned it and it was in Bellevue, Washington. Which at the time was just a suburb Seattle- today its viewed as a wealthier suburb.

Lew did not alter the dash for the change... it came with the street dash, as I think several of the other later USRRC cars did. The experts can set that straight. My photos of 2459 on September 20, 1964, show the same dash at Bridgehampton as in these photos.

Thanks Jamie, I got your note and left a message on your cell. I would love to have any info you might provide. If you don't already have them, I have a couple of photos of your dad, one with Ol' Shell, along with both Jim Hacker and Bob Stalnaker, and the other with Wayne from New Zealand and Pete Nosh. Also, I have a couple racing shots, but no driver info.

At Deer's Leap, Westwood B.C. on September 21, 1968...

I have a shot of Lew going airborne on the leap three years earlier, in 1965. Looks like it was a wild ride...

Unhappy Sadness!

Sadly, the original poster for this thread, Jamie Bargelt junior, passed away about this time three years ago, at much too young of an age. He was a great guy and very generous with his family's Cobra heritage! I appreciate that very much. Please pray for his soul. May he rest in peace!
