Default Factory Five Build in Western NC

Hello fellow enthusiasts. I'm starting this thread to document the build of my recently acquired FFR Roadster. I bought it from the original owner who got it running and titled but not finished. I live in Western NC near the Tail of the Dragon. I can't think of a better ride to enjoy this world famous strip of road.

I found my first major issue today when getting the car ready to start. The previous owner said it had been 'a couple of years' since it had been started so I wanted to clean out the fuel system. It turned out to be a bigger job than I expected. I ordered a new tank, pump assembly and sender.

Where in western NC are you located? Plenty of Cobra guys both in and around Ashville as well as Greenville and north western SC.

Yeah, it's been "a couple of years" all right...

I live about an hour west of Asheville near Cherokee, NC. I'll definitely have to connect with the other members in the area when I finish.

Default It's alive!

After installing the new fuel tank, pump and sender I blew out the fuel lines and ran some fresh gas through them. I borrowed a battery from my boat and it fired right up. All I can say is it sounds violent! I can't wait to get it out on the road. Here's my inspiration for a potential paint color -

I have military friends up in your area and i'm up there often. Haven't ventured the trip in my Cobra yet.

It's actually cheaper to drive my deuce and a half than the Cobra. I'm thinking November.

What Mk is it?

It's a Mk1 that was almost completed. I'm planning to get it on the road then pull the body this winter and get everything ready for paint.

It's Stihl Safety Glasses Burnt Orange LOL. I'm thinking of painting it in a matte finish with charcoal stripes.

I have a couple of honey do's to take care of then I plan to get the car ready for the NC inspection to title & tag it. I'm hoping I can drive it a little before it get's too cold in the mountains of Western NC. Then I'll pull everything down, make the upgrades I have planned and prep it for paint. I'd like to have it ready to go next spring which might be a little ambitious. I did take it for a 'drive' yesterday which consisted of putting it in gear, moving forward 3 feet and then backing up.
