SPF289 FIA race car for sale

Hi everyone,

I have been looking at doing a new build for vintage racing, but first need to sell the SPF 289 FIA that I have been racing for the past several years. The car is race ready. It can be sold as is or minus the engine and transmission. I figured that I would touch base here first, as people here have been following the build over the years and know the quality of the workmanship and hours that have gone into the car.

Asking price is $150K for the complete car and $125K for the roller. It has an SVRA logbook and was the prototype for SPF to enter vintage racing. A lot of quality work and support has gone into this car from Rick Muck, Ross Henry and Dennis Olthoff. It is a race ready car and the quickest way to get into vintage racing with a well sorted and engineered car. The closest the vast majority of us will ever get to racing a real 289 FIA cobra. I'm still on the hunt for ERA 289FIA street able. Yours could be stretch and would a be shame to make it a streetcar. Good luck, Cheers Tom.

Jim's car has an excellent record, it has never had a major mechanical failure and never been bent. The work that went into it to prototype the Girling brake installation alone would cost a lot of money.

It would be a front row car if he was running one of the "hand grenade" motors that the deep pocket racers are.

And, yes, he is looking to stay in the "Shelby" family for his next racer.

How can you pass up the opportunity to race a cobra? It would make a great track day car as well. You could brag how you were besting my times, just think about it!

As Rick said, if the car gets sold the new project would be in the "Shelby" family and the build discussed here.

Oh Jim, I could give you a line about only wanting to race small bore cars (Momentan cars) how fun it was to beat large bore, with little motors
But that would be nothing more than BS
I had a chance to race a 67 427 Vette coupe for a weekend (looking to buy) Well, as I got used to the torque & power of this big block, coming out of turn 9 @ Pacific Raceways (110+mph, 3rd gear) the clutch started slipping (Damn now I owe Jack a new clutch) Then lo and behold, I look in the mirror and I'm SPINNING the rear tires
If I was still married and had her as my sponsor, then maybe
16gal 1/4 drums were pricey of 109 VP, can't think of going though 55gal barrel a race weekend.
