Default Does this look strange

I have been looking at this Contemporary Cobra and I have a question about the data plate. Please see the attached picture. Does this look strange or is this how they were attached.

Thanks for any information I can get in this.

It does look odd. As if something was removed and the vin was placed back on the car? Is there a title that goes along with the car?

As stated previously, cars of this era were frequently fitted with aluminum panels inside the engine bay. The ID plates were set on a raised area, forward of the firewall on the passenger side of the engine bay. It appears that rather than remove and reattach the aluminum panel, someone just made a cutout to fit over the existing installation. Not strange at all unless it is locate somewhere else.
