Complete Coil front suspension
Hi
I am in the UK looking to purchase a unbuilt later Contemporary Cobra that has been stored for 25 years. It has the later coil over front mounts but unfortunately no wishbones or uprights! Can these still be sourced? if yes where from?
My other idea is to convert back to full e-type torsion bar setup as the wishbone mounts look the same, i realise shock mount would have to move.
Would be interested in your comments thoughts.
Thanks very much
Mark

Contemporary in the later coil spring cars made their own A arms but to the same dimensional spec as those from the E type they use the same mounting locations. the upright are from the Jag XJ6 . I think you would have to have the A arms fabricated which would not be to difficult, best of luck.

Hi, thanks for this, was just hoping someone had a set for sale, interesting about the upright but are you sure as the pictures i have found of the later Contemporary the steering arm is a fixed/solid item where as all XJ6 Ser 1 to 3 this a separate bolted on item, do you know if Contemporary modified the uprights?

It might be worth a try to contact Peter Bayer. He is the original owner of Contemporary. He now runs Nisonger Instruments.
https://www.nisonger.com/
I've never spoken to Peter, but others have. Apparently results have been mixed when contacting him about Contemporary questions. Some have said that he's happy to answer Contemporary questions, others say not so much. It can't hurt to give it a try.
Also, I have sent you a private message, take a look when you have time as it might help you out. Best of luck!

I have a set of chrome A arms/ wishbone I'm lm looking to sell, no uprights though. I also have a set of XKE rear arms that I won't be using since I ended up narrowing a XJS rear end. My email is cobra52563@msn.com

"I have a set of chrome A arms/ wishbone..."
Be careful. There's a good chance that chrome on suspension arms won't get through their TUV inspection.

To convert back to torsion bar you require a bracket at the frame to mount the bar to.
I suggest to explore the coil over suspension idea. You might find that Jag E type components (can be made to) fit, as indicated above.

torsion bar A Arms
Most will tell you that a Contemporary with coil overs is a better handling car. If you want a torsion bar front suspension you need to find a pair of XKE lower and upper A Arms, a pair of torsion bars and duplicate the adjuster plate for the back of the torsion bar… a lot of work! Most owners would like to be able to convert their torsion bar cars to coil overs.
