Final Update for Cruise:
Hello everyone, it's time to load up the car and head to the mountains! So far it looks like the weather is trying to cooperate, so fingers crossed we are rid of the rain that has plagued us for 3 weeks. Cheri and I did a dry run yesterday and I think we have a great trip planned...here is the run-down;
Thursday morning we'll meet at Lake Chatuge Lodge in Hiawassee GA at 0930. We can get everyone registered and wait for any stragglers and then plan to leave at 10:00 sharp. We'll head up through the gorge to Cashiers NC, where we'll have lunch at the Cornucopia Restaurant at 12:30. After lunch we'll cruise back to Highlands where folks can either poke around the shops for an hour or so, or go on a thrilling run down and back on a little stretch of the Moonshiner, which was once a famous road for bootleggers. We'll meet back up in Highlands for our cruise back to Hiawassee and everyone will have time to clean up before we leave at 6pm for dinner at the Copper Door in Hayesville, NC.
Friday morning 0900, we depart Hiawassee and motor up to the historic Tapoca Lodge for lunch, then after lunch it's time to challenge the "Tail of the Dragon" before heading over to Tuckaleechee Caverns for a little diversion. We'll depart the caverns and make our way to Gatlinburg down some of the prettiest roads in the Southeast. Friday night will be dinner in Gatlinburg and a chance to check out the town.
Saturday morning it's breakfast at Crockett's Breakfast Camp at 0800 for those interested, and then we all depart Crockett's at 0900 for a quick run to Roaring Fork, a pretty loop road with lot's of chances to see wildlife. After that we head up into Great Smokey Mountain National Park and up to Clingman's Dome, 3rd highest mountain east of the Mississippi. Bring a light jacket, it can be chilly up there! Then we'll head on through the park to Cherokee, where we'll have lunch, before making out way back to Hiawassee by mid-afternoon. Those with tight schedules can depart, or if you have time, stick around for dinner at the Chophouse (next to the hotel) at 6:30.

Okay folks, the 2nd Annual Summer Mountain Cruise is officially on. The plan is to start on in Hiawasse GA, on Thursday, July 9th, for those who can make it. Some of you expressed an interest in doing the Moonshiner again, so we'll plan on that for Thursday, as well as a trip through the beautiful Cullasaja gorge to Highlands, NC. If any of the ladies (or men) would rather poke around in the fancy shops of Highlands, they can do that while we do a quick run down the famous Moonshiner 129. Then it's back to Hiawassee for the night, where we'll meet up at the Lake Chatuge Lodge. We'll do dinner again at the Copper Door, and they promised me 2-3 servers this time so it'll be much quicker. Although the rates at the lodge have gone up, I got us the same deal as last year. Use the code COBRA when you make your reservations to get the special rate.
On Friday we'll head up to the famous Tail of the Dragon, and then on into the Great Smokey Mountain National Park for an overnight stay in Gatlinburg. (I made arrangements for folks to leave your trailers and trucks at the lodge in Hiawassee)
On Saturday morning we'll go to an awesome place called Cades Cove, which is a loop road through a valley with tons of wildlife. We often see bears, deer and even Elk. Afterwards we'll wind our way back to Hiawasse via Eric's special blend of highways and byways. For those who want to spend Saturday night in Hiawassee and tow back on Sunday, I have the same price and group code for that night as well.
This should be a great cruise with lots of stuff to do, even better than last year, so y'all come on, and bring your friends! I'll post additional hotel info and codes as soon as they finalize my contracts, and we'll also post a full itinerary soon, but at least you have the dates now so that you can make plans.
Best regards,
