Just curious who has orders in, updates on status, parts you have acquired, what your working on. I will start
Order placed: April 2020 slabside/FIA
363 almost done building
Man O War 8.2 block
lunati/molnar/mahle rotating assembly
aviaid 7 qt oil pan
Twisted Wedge race 225 heads/titanium valves/t&d shaft rockers
custom solid roller
waiting on Borla 8 stack EFI

I got a used xks rearend that I need to rebuild. I think I am going to call Peter and see if I can go ahead and get the ERA rearend kit sent so I can build it while I wait.

Next will be getting the clutch/transmission.

look forward to seeing everyones progress

It's been a while since I analyzed the costs for ERA options for somebody but, as I recall, the cost of the ERA rear was almost a no-brainer for what you get versus what it cost over and above a Jag based rear. Now, what I can't remember is whether the outboard based brakes then triggered the need to upgrade the front wheels to the "big brake" option. I did all that but I can't remember whether you have to or not.

EDIT -- And I can't remember whether some of the nuances on the six pin hubs plays in to that either. But I can tell you that the six pins are one of the coolest things on the car that only you will appreciate, because no one else knows you have it except you.

I did the same thing, built the engine, rebuilt the Jag differential, and gathered parts while waiting for my car to be delivered. It arrived in the middle of June and I'm about 90% through with assembly.

99% done now. Driving it now to shake out any issues, after everything is sorted I will pull the exhaust and put a black Cerakote coating on it.

That’s a classy looking build. Really like your taste - great color combo in an understated 427. What engine?

Oh, very nice! Hard to beat a 427 roadster (unless it's an FIA, of course ).
Great to see combinations like yours that really do look like the original 427 cars.

Cheers,
Glen

That color combo, is the only other one I'd considered for my 427 street before I went with BRG/Black. Nice to see more & more 289/427 street cars being built or just showing up. And of course nothing say's 427 street better then a set of "Sunbrust" to finish her off. Beautiful build bcrumpley, you should be proud Cheers TommyRot.

Hi, Jason -

Exciting times! Looks like you've got a lot going on with mechanical work while you wait. When you say "slabside/FIA" does that mean you're still deciding which body to have them make, or that you're going to incorporate elements of both cars?

Several people have done "street FIA" cars with the FIA body (and hence tire capacity) but installed a grille and other accoutrements of the slabside.

If you go with the Slabside body, you end up in a pretty tight option space regarding rear suspension, rolling stock, and exhaust. With the Jag rear, the undercar exhaust clears 215mm rear tires by about 1/4 inch. ERA says in their literature that undercar exhaust is impossible with the ERA rear, but it's always worth asking about it further to see if ERA or previous builders have found a way.

I built 3014 (slabside, Jag rear, undercar exhaust, hydraulic roller/aluminum head 331 dressed like a 289, TKO 600) so I'm happy to chat if you want to learn more about my project.

Bill

Thanks. It's a 445 stroker with BBM heads and one of Brent Lykins' roller cams as well as his rocker arm setup. The block is a 391 with crossbolted mains added as well as screw-in freeze plugs.

Thanks for all of he compliments. The color gets more attention than I anticipated, and as many of you know was the hardest decision to make. It is Silver Mink, one of the original colors offered when Cobras were new. My goal was to make it look as much like an original as possible, but felt that it made sense to sneak in some modern improvements, such as fuel injection, timing control, roller cam, and twin disk clutch.

Great looking project. Looks like you have plenty of flow in the air cleaner. May I ask how much clearance to the hood? I am building a street version with ford fe, no scoop. And loosing a little sleep wondering what my air filter options are.

This might help you start to come up with a plan. My hood has a scoop, and I have a TP as well, but here is a shot with a K & N 9" round filter with the Xtreme Top. The total height gain is only one quarter inch. The second shot is through the scoop with a 3/4" roll of black electrical tape sitting on the top. The roll of tape just barely touches with the hood latched. This should start to give you an idea of what you'll have under there without a scoop and without a turkey pan between the carb and manifold.

fintubi,

I am building a early 289 comp style car similar to csx2433 or the dragonsnake csx2472. The early cars were slabsides with the finder flares hammered out to cover the tires. I talked to Big B and they said they can add the flares. I will be running the ERA rearend with outboard brakes.

The early Camero/Corvette 14" drop base is the lowest profile air filter I know and it is relieved to clear a Holley carburetor. You can use the 14" top of your choice and 14" air filters are available in many heights so you can pick the biggest one that fits your car.
