ERA Corner Weights & Percentages

Today the Capital Area Cobra Club had a "Weigh Day" with a nice set of computerized scales. I thought some of the ERA owners might be interested in the results of my car. My tank had 12 gallons in it and the trunk had the soft top and a small satchel of tools. Here are the weight numbers and percentages for my car, the numbers in parentheses are with me in it (me weighing 195lbs):


LF 646 (703) RF 666 (667)
LR 663 (756) RR 678 (725)


Cross Weight 1328-50% (1319-50%)
Left 1309-49% (1456-51%)
Rear 1337-50% (1478-52%)

Total 2651 (2846)

Having a 50/50 distribution from front to rear, right to left, and cross-ways is what you want, but you won't get that in a Cobra so you adjust your suspension to try and get the cross weights at 50% (or move stuff around, like the battery). Having a number other than 50% on your cross weight will result in your cornering being different depending on whether you're going left or right. In some circumstances you might want that, but most of the time you don't. Thanks for the info. So your ERA without fuel and the "extras" is probably about 2500 lb. Could you tell me a little more about the drivetrain- Aluminum heads, flywheel, etc? Do you have the Lakewood bellhousing? What size/type battery? I'm trying to bring my ERA in at under 2300 dry using an aluminum engine, AL flywheel, Quicktime bellhousing, smaller battery, etc.

Drivetrain – Tremec TKO-600, ERA outboard rear (that's about 50 lbs. lighter than the Jag rear).

Iron FE block, aluminum heads, intake, water pump, and flywheel. Lakewood bellhousing; standard battery. I do have dual roll bars. I think that with my tank “bone dry” and the trunk empty, and yanking out the passenger roll bar, I might be able to get her down to 2550, but I doubt any lower than that.

Thanks Patrick- I probably won't get down to 2300 since I'm using 17" wheels which are heavier and the engine only saves about 100lb. Bell housing saves about 25, battery about 20. I'm using the TKO-600 as well and the ERA rear.

Just had my Classic Roadsters weighed this weekend at a Capital Area Cobra Club get together. It was 50/50. Just about 622 lbs at each wheel!
