Default 427 SO sounds while driving (video)

If you were the size of a mouse and sitting in the passenger seat looking at the steering wheel, here is your view from the inside of ERA 488. I've been experimenting today with external mic placement and wind control. This installment includes a HWY ramp with the mic mounted near the rear license plate and a different ramp with the mic behind the passenger seat. The traffic was too heavy to give these runs any justice so I apologize in advance for the lame 3rd gear seek and destroy surges while I find my entry gap.

This car has a 427 with Weber style fuel injection and 2.5" under car rear exiting exhaust. Real life sound from my head behind the driver's seat is something like a composite between these two takes.

That sounds very nice. Exactly what mufflers are you using...brand, length
and diameter as well as pipe diameter. Thanks.

Classic Chambered Powersticks 2.5" in/out, 3.5" case, 30" length - Known by CC as the "TUNDRA". Very happy with them! Price is less than $80 each, so it's a great bargain and they are unpacked so they will not deteriorate like conventional glass packs. Eric was very helpful on the phone helping consult with me on the best option for my car.

I liked the first better. Sounds a lot better than with the camera/mic mounted to the rollbars.

Have you tried placing the mic at the base of the windshield at the center of the car? The windshield should work as a sound collector and centered should balance left/right levels.

The long power sticks would have four crimps in the body of the muffler. I
also have an ERA and the only place I see to put these would be just inside, and
a bit lower than the "rocker panel" area. This means the body of the power
sticks would hang a bit lower than the body and the crimps would be visible
from the side of the car. How do they look? Do you have any photos?

That sounds nice to me and I never noticed hardly any wind noise, especially compared to some videos that people have posted.

Years ago I also wanted to record my Cobra's sound. The exhaust side pipes that came with my kit,in a word,.....sucked. with a friend of mine we created the "Gilmore Kit" for Cobras, Vetts etc. Highly polished 304 stainless with no muffler, to blow out or the welded tabs to break loose and rattle. Inside are louvers. Louder than some would like, but alot of Cobras owners like it too.

I bought a hard drive camcorder to record my wife and I's cruise in Alaska and to record the build of my aluminum side oiler engine. Got the trip then sent it to my engine builder, which he then store but, not before I did get some driving in and record my 428 FE for the buyer.

I made a cool camera mount out of a Mickey Thompson aluminum connecting rod, to clamp onto my roll bar, but could not find it the day I wanted to record the drive. (of course)

So, I held it while driving, except when I laid it down on the passanger seat like you did.

Video #7 is when I got on the gas a bit, (crank up the volume)the others are idleing, and crusing down the highway. My Sony camcorder worked great as there was little of air noise into the mic. It came with 3 different mics for different purposie's. These vids were just with the built in, but wanted to try the other's, never got to it.

Click on this link, then click on video's to see all 11 to chose from.

I proudly show my dimples when I smile (: We elected to turn the crimps so that they were perpendicular to the ground to avoid them collecting any junk/moisture, etc.

Decided to paint them BBQ black - they seem to disappear for the most part unless you get really low and look for them. Every muffler will protrude lower than the body on an ERA.

Green ERA....maroon ERA.....what great looking street Cobras!
I do remember you had a white ERA 427 with blue stripes as well some time back? That's a colour/stripe combination that I really like as well Troy.

Please continue!

Cheers,
Glen

Thank you Troy. Your car is one of the nicest Cobras on this site and the
power sticks look just fine on the car. I will do the same on my car which
is a plain black street variant of the FIA...no hood scoop and no bumper jacks
but with the street dash and chrome bumpers. I appreciate your input.

That sounds really nice. Is there a vid out there of just the idle of your engine so you can hear the engine part and less exhaust? Preferably as close to the engine compartment as possible. Kind of like my audio below on my signature line below.

I admire your energy Troy. I bought a remote mic for my GoPro about a year ago and have yet to try it out. Maybe some time this Fall.
