want to sell don't know if I should rebuild or sell disassembled, I have had engine since 1978 it has little river heads cross am dual quad and all the matching carbs and external and internal parts .
any thoughts out there

You probably won't recover your investment if you build it and try to sell it - unless the machine work is already done, parts on hand and all it needs is assembly. Probably best to sell as a complete package in present condition - especially if it appears it's a matching parts engine. Possibly a 63 - 64 Galaxie restoration project needs an engine or someone with a Cobra project not hung up on sideoiler status. I have a friend restoring a Q-code 63 Galaxie who was searching for such an engine last year but he has found one now.

Myself, I would much prefer to buy it un-assembled. One you can inspect what you are getting. No one can blow smoke. Two I can easily change cam, port heads, or do anything I like.

You assemble it to sell it. I don't trust it.

The only way I would consider assembled a plus, is if you had it assemble by a builder I know and thrust, and the assembler personally told me he will stand behind the engine.

Otherwise I am taking a risk. In that situation, I am only willing to pay half what it is worth and only if I think there is less than a 10% chance it is not what it is said to be.

Bottom line is that this is not going to fund a retirement plan. To most people, both inexperienced and experienced, it's a chunk of iron with an unknown history. It could be a find, but it could also be a lost cause. With that unknown quantity it's a tough sell.
