Experienced Insight Wanted - BBFE removal after dropped valve!
Hi all,
Well, unfortunate series of events. Started the car and heard clacking all of the sudden in the valve train area. Short story, following investigative disassembly, I have a broken valve spring, bent pushrod and collapsed lifter with damage to the cylinder wall. So, engine out is next. What is the recommended strategy to remove the long block (High-Tech Motorsports chassis HTM65C0115)?
1. Disconnect trans (Toploader) and remove the long block, after removing alternator and water pump assemblies?
2. If not possible on the above strategy, does the transmission come attached...which does not seem likely.
Thank you...appreciate the feedback.

Awesome car
Don’t be discouraged
I would disconnect trans and pull motor out.
Myself I would pull tranny from the cockpit.
Easy enough then helps with engine out front.
Probably detail trans while out, Clean, paint and fluids.
Motor pops right out.
Craig has done this a lot. Might be a good sounding board.
Where are you located?

And you know that if the engine went in, the engine can come out. But, pulling an engine out is easier than putting it in. You really need a helper to drop it back in.

Best to remove the hood and remove as much of the accessories as you can. Thats a heavy beast. Your engine puller will be fully extended. Approach from the side and a couple helpers to keep an eye on things.
Good luck!!

Depends on your engine puller. With a Kubota you just come straight in.

Progress!
We did confirm that the block is a real 428 Cobra Jet block with webbing a main journals. Confirmed the broken valve spring, with bent valve as well as bent pushrod and collapsed lifter. Since this block is already at 40 over stock and therefore, not likely as candidate to sleeve the damaged cylinder wall, we are planning to look for an alternative 428 block. Leads appreciated. Alternatively, we are also investigating sources for new reproduction FE blocks (BBM or Shelby for example). Feedback welcome!
