yeah, i may be wrong but i think it is because qft participated in the alcohol version that gave them the points and moved them to the top, although mark whitener moved up pretty good and he didn't, so i don't know, same with braswell. aed won it last year if i remember right and did well again this year. the top 3 were within fraction of percentages of each other and i will bet the others were close also. they were able to tune the carb and you can tell who came in low on the list in the out of the box category and moved up were able to improve the tune.
big block contest starts today and i will post that when available.

i think the reason for the move up in standings was the opportunity to make one last adjustment at the end and go with that, or stand pat.

I am fortunate in that I live a 15 minute drive from AED. When I wasn't happy with the vacuum secondary Holley that came on my Roush 427R, I drove over to AED. We put my car on their chassis dyno. We did about 6 pulls and dialed in a 750HO Modified carb until the hp and torque curves and AF ratios were absolutely the best they could be. They are a totally class act. Terrific guys.
Highly recommended.

Just curious on the Big Block finishing order . Stallion had a score of .998822 ,
Drag Race Tech was .993502 , Braswell was at .995549 , ADP was .995068 , QFT was .996907 and AED was at .997188 .
Shouldn`t Stallion been rated #4 and Drag Race Tech been # 7 or 8 in this one ? I`m sure I`m missing something here , but don`t know what .

i believe stallion broke out, or went above the 14-1 a/f ratio that is allowed, by just the slightest touch at the higher rpm's. they conversed, and looks like they upheld the ruling. probably the same with drag race tech.
to get the good numbers they had to get as close to the limit as possible, as that is what the engine liked. quite a game.

That's fair enough.
It is a horsepower game, who cares what A/F ratio they dare to run.
If the carb tuner can run numbers that lean, they obviously have the emulsion and distribution down pat.
Would have liked to see their BSFC figures.

they put a limit on the a/f ratio in consideration of the engine owner, who donated it for the competition.
david vizard was one of the judges, and he said some of the bsfc figures were in the .29 range.
here is their method of scoring via david vizard:
The dyno load is equivalent to the weight of a NASCAR Sprint Cup car (about 3400lbs) What we do is to time how long it takes to accelerate this mass from 5000 rpm to 8000 rpm .
For instance if it took 4 seconds with the BLP baseline carb that we use to generate the ‘bogey’ number we would have 3000 (that’s the difference between 5000 and 8000) divided by 4. The bogey number in this case being 3000/4 = 750 or 750 rpm/sec average acceleration rate.
Because the contestants are so close we want to minimize the effects of weather changes to a minimum. What we do here is to run a baseline with the BLP carb then run two contestants then another baseline. The results are the average acceleration rate of the contestants entry compared to the adjacent baseline.
Let’s take the last test we did. That was Holley’s entry. Their carb delivered an average rpm/sec acceleration rate of 753.1 rpm/sec and directly after that the baseline BLP carb delivered a 753.8 rpm/sec. Who ever has the best ratio between these two numbers is the winner!! Now does all that make sense?
DV
