Cobra owner? An interesting question in my PM box
So, I fellow CC member (not named as that would not be ethical at this time, without his permission) here on CC, one with a profile starting in 2004, with less than 200 posts since that time sent me the following this AM:
Hi,
Curious with all of the posts you have contributred on Club Cobra, do you actually own a Cobra? Your gallery shows a couple different Cobra's and your avitar as Mr. Mustang leads me down the path that you may not own one?
My pre-caffeinated response:
An interesting question, not certain I should answer, but heck, I'm game. For the last 14 months I have not owned a Cobra, but had never been without one for more than a few weeks from the late 90's till 14 months ago..Those that know me personally, or through the various web based forums can tell you more, I personally feel to post more detail would seem like an ego trip on my part, so I won't bother, as that is just not me.
So again, an interesting question, why did you ask? Do you believe not currently owning a Cobra makes me less of an enthusiast, or my knowledge base of all makes and models is somewhat tainted as a current non owner? Do you believe I should not be here since I am not currently an owner? Do you feel empowered that you currently have one, and I do not? Or what really motivated you to send me a PM to ask me that question???
Not sure how I should take the original question? Curiosity or something more nefarious? What do you guys think?
Bill S

It sounds to me to be a whimsical enquiry or some sort of assessment?
My view is that this forum is really a blank sheet of paper and only becomes relevant when someone writes something on it. To be able to do so only requires one to be a member.

Bill,
I would just either ignore it or take it as this person is somewhat curious. I do find that a somewhat odd question but since I don't know the person personally it is really hard to know just what prompted such an odd question. If he thinks you shouldn't be on a site because you don't have a Cobra at present he should visit some of the other sites. We have several on our small site that don't have Cobras, have sold them and are waiting to get another, or are just asking questions about what to look for as they are getting ready to get their first one.

I wouldn't read too much into it. There are plenty of reasons he may be curious. Putting it into a PM was appropriate, too.

Good evening Gentlemen,
I joined up here, as I was searching for quality Weber tuning information.
Now, it also allowed me to share my background.
And I haven't owned a Cobra yet.
Does that make me less of a contributing member?
The guy with 200 posts PMs a member with over 11000 with those comments, some nerve.

What prove does someone have anyway if you own one or not. Someone just like to yank your chain.
I couldn't care less if you owned one or not.

Reference your reply in the recent Fiberfab question thread, note the brand of replica owned by the member who messaged you - 2+2= your answer right there.

I confess, it was me that posed the question and while it started as a PM and now is published above, my response to Mr. Mustang's response.
" Actually the GT500 Fast back that you advertise as your Cobra first caught my attention and believe me it's pure envy on my part. I then saw how many posts you had and then wondered if you had or ever had a Cobra as your gallery really didn't spell that out. For an individual to be a member of a forum for 18 years and not own one seemed defeating at some level. I don't have any personal beliefs or agenda in regards to you and I guess in hind site it really is none of my business. Not questioning your skill level, knowledge or anything like that, and I can't imagine anyone on this website short of a real Cobra owner feeling empowered driving a fake. I guess my motivation was the amount of advice you give yet appearing as though you had never owned one. You clarified that and that of course answers my question but again, it really is none of my business and I shouldn't have raised the question in the first place."
