Default Denver area meetup?

I live in Highlands Ranch (south Denver) and looking to meet up with someone local to talk to about building a cobra.
My son and I were going to build a Ford '66 T-bird with a Ford FE 428. After looking into it more we found that it was not a great path with some structural and reliability issued.
So we are looking at building a Cobra instead. Looking at a few different manufacturers and sizes but new enough to the hobby that we are not really sure. My son is 6'2 and I am "larger" build so we are not sure we can even fit in one

I have tried reaching out to a few local clubs but not finding a lot.

I found out about the Shelby museum here in Boulder and planning to hit that this weekend.

Looking to glean some info from local fans. Please PM me.

The Shelby American Collection is a must see for any Cobra-era racing enthusiast. CSX2000 lives there now (not every day, it might be out visiting, but if it's there it's a must see.) I used to live in Lyons and visited the museum every few months.

Do you have fabrication experience? Lots of tools? Or at least access to the more limited use things you'll need but never use again? A lift?

A Cobra is a tough build for an inexperienced builder. There are no straight lines.

If you're building for the sake of building there are other first-time build kits that produce an equally fun car with lots less frustration. Look at the Caterham Lotus 7 ("The Prisoner" car).

If you're looking for a Cobra and really want a Cobra your chances of success are lots higher if you get a roller and install the power train. You'll still get a lot of assembly time but have a car a lot sooner to enjoy.

(P.S. I repeat this advice frequently.)

Good luck.

I live close by in Frederick, feel free to contact me with any questions or to come and check out my ERA FIA. I also previously owned an ERA 427SC.

Very nice speaking with you Tobin, I hope we can point you in the best direction. Your best option with the money you have, is a pre-owned Cobra, as we discussed (Time & money well spent). You still will has plenty of tinkling time with your son. But you also can drive it, without the wait of building your own. We're here to help. Cheers Tom.
