Default License Plate-Flipping Devices

I thought I'd post this new bill Governor Inslee signed into law because I know a few of us have use license plate-flipping devices.

Bruce

ESHB 1944 Addressing vehicle license plate and registration fraud:
The bill makes it unlawful for a person to display a license plate that does not match or correspond with the registration of the vehicle unless the vehicle is inventory for a vehicle dealer; and to have an installed license plate-flipping device on a vehicle, to use technology to flip a license plate, or to use technology to change the appearance of a license plate on a vehicle. It is also unlawful for a person or entity to sell a license plate flipping device or sell technology that will change the appearance of a license plate.
Effective Date: July 1, 2015

Flipping and pivoting are two different things. Wording could make all the difference. Or maybe not.

It also depends on what the fine is, compared to how many you saved.
It's all cameras these days.

I have a very old memory of a cartoon where the bad guy had a knob on the dash of his get-away truck and he could select one of many license plates to display on the back of the vehicle. Of course, with a different license plate the bad guy could never be caught. Now you are telling me technology has made even THAT possible? Wow!

Here is a question. if my car is legal in my home state in all ways registration, insurance, title, inspection, and all equipment on via the inspection and I travel to another state, do I have to remove or change that equipment or am I covered like transporting a firearm. As long as I am traveling through not staying or setting up residence I am covered by Federal law.

Lots of discussion on this with respect to radar detectors. They are illegal in some states and based on the experience of others, better not get caught with one no matter where you're from.

Things get even worse when going from the US to Canada.

I have a flip plate on my ERA & love it. My town police chief has seen it & loves it too! Maine really is "The way life should be!" (state moto) Ok, so the taxes are higher than I would like. In the top 10 in the nation. But @ least the state lets a man have his toys with out intrusive legislation! Thats a bummer about Washington state.

Since my sister no longer lives in Texas and no longer has her Jeep Wagoneer, I can tell the story.

She had bought a Jeep in AR with a catalytic converter-free (removed) 1986 V8 360 AMC engine. She moved from OK to TX but had to keep AR license on the vehicle because TX and OK checked to see if anybody had removed converters. Remember how bad the old ones smelled?

She drove to Texarkana, AR from Dallas, TX every year to get an AR plate and inspection sticker. She was a student and technically still an AR resident. She never had any trouble but I don't know that anybody ever questions WHY she had a Arkansas license plate in TX or OK.

A lawyer friend on our city council in Jonesboro, AR took his daughter to college in NY in a rental truck on a one way rental. He took his .357 Colt Python and followed Northwest Airline's recommendation about transporting his gun. Gun and ammo were checked in separate pieces of luggage. Gun was not loaded and he told desk people at Northwest what he had done. After our mayor, governor and Attorney General wrote letters and countless phone calls, he was released. I am not sure if he had to get FFL dealer to ship his gun to FFL dealer in Arkansas.

No real point except be careful, tell people what you are doing and hope for the best.

Best wishes,

Russell

Did you make this device or did "M" do it for you?

Rumor has it that the state of New York will stop you and ask if you are transporting any fire arms. If you say yes, because you are doing everything legal, they will take you in for interrogation. This will hold you for 24 hours at which time you are no longer passing through the state. Then they arrest you. If you higher a good attorney you will beat the charge, but in the mean time they ruined your trip, and cost you big money. They do not care if they loose the case. They just want to harm gun owners.

Now if you take the court appointed attorney, you will go to jail.

Thumbs up

Rpatton3

Go to "RPIdesigns.com" item# C6PRLF Enter the item # in the keyword box & you will see what I put on my AC. I simply moved/raised the oil cooler up 2" & fit the remote control retractable front plate holder under the oil cooler to fit into the oil cooler opening. While the oil cooler now splits the two openings it has no effect on cooling. In fact By raising/fliping the plate up during colder weather the plate actually provides some extra wind blockage to the cooler. the plate is easy to install, I used the same bolts from the original cooler & a 2"W x 1/8"T x 1'L strip piece of alum. from Home cheepo & bent/fabracated the 2 brackets to raise the oil cooler for the proper clearence req. to fit the bracket. You will see a video when you look @ the parts from rpi. It works the Balls People get a kick out of seeing it work @ shows too! PS: it cost $140 bucks

No big deal. Register it as a 65 Cobra and you don't have to run a front plate.

The first paragraph describes the intent of the law. It is to make illegal anything which alters the viewed license plate number. There is a significant difference between altering between 2 sides, numbers and removing the plate from blocking air to the induction of the cooling system or intake to cool the engine compartment. "Flipping" is to indicate that the opposite side yeilds another number. If this interpretation were the intent, a plate which hung on 2 wire ties tied to the bumper such that it blew back in the wind would be illegal.
