It's not an original color, the color was mixed by Canepa's shop.

It looks a little like Ford Caspian Blue. It was a Thunderbid color.

Bruce has always maintained he uses a correct mid-60's FoMoCo color on the cars he paints dark blue.

Nige,

The guys are correct, this is definitely a Canepa car. I recognize the photo (it’s one of mine ) and below is another photo of CSX2433 taken at the same time (The Shelby Memorial at the San Jose Mercury News). The sun was fairly low in the sky, so the car almost looks black.

Also below are photos of CSX3360 that I took at the Palo Alto Concours a few years ago. It looks to be the same or very similar, non metallic dark blue … this Cobra was originally red. Bruce Canepa has painted a few cars this color and it’s stunning. The photos of CSX3360 were taken around noon so the deep blue really shows depending on the angle of the sun. The black license plate gives you a reference as to how dark the blue is. You could contact Canepa and see if they can supply you the paint code.

Ferrari has a Nuovo Blu Pozzi & Blu Pozzi that is a very dark non metallic blue, looks almost black depending on the light.

Ferrari Colors

Good luck with your search … hard to go wrong with a blue Cobra ...

- Tim

Thanks for the help guys it's appreciated, as I live in Britain, I'm not familiar with the paint colours from the factory for the Fords, do you have a paint code to go with the Mustang or Thunderbird colours?

Tim, thanks for the photos, I've contacted Canepa's but as yet I've not had a reply. I've been torn on which colour to paint mine for some time, though it's waaaay off being painted, but I like to have a visual in my head to aim for. The blue on CSX 2433 just looks so right as does the photo of CSX 3360. I want something that looks almost black until the sun comes out & those two colours seem to look about spot on. In some photos I actaually thought CSX 2433 was black I'll check out the Ferrari colour & see what that's like & hopefully Bruce will get back to me too.

many thanks....Nige

Hi Nige,

My guess would be BS 105 Oxford Blue or RAL 5013 or 5003, easy to find in the UK.

Thanks Martin, I'll check out those colours when I go to the paint factors later in the week It looks very reminiscent of Ford Midnight blue that they used to put on Mk 5 Cortinas too

Nige,

Your question about paint codes prompted me to look around and I found this website that is an amazing resource ... check it out. The company is Paintref.com and their name says it all.

PaintRef.com - Automotive Truck Fleet Paint Color Code Cross Reference

I know your project is just getting started and you have a long way to go, before you choose a color. For my build, selecting the color was one of the most difficult decisions to make. Even if you narrow it down to Red or Green or Blue, there are so many shades, with and without metal flake ... trying to match a historic car or coming up with something of your own. Lots to think about, but then again that's half the fun!

Looks like a favorite color of the GT40 owners; Midnight Blue Metallic, CODES can be found here: Color Codes - Midnight Paint Cross-Reference Blue&con=1&make=Ford&rows=50

Did we ever determine the actual paint code for these cars?

Wow, I'd forgotten about this thread. I finally contacted Canepa Designs and they said that the colour is Sheridan Blue, paint code PPG 10428. I've not checked that it's the right colour as yet, but will do soon
cheers..Nige
