CSX 2011 Competition Cobra Goes to Auction
Well, this appears to be a nice piece of history! Same owner for past 40 years.
Check for loose change under the couch and don't forget your checkbook!

Let's modify that to "one owner for 40 years;" (Ron West); "Same owner since '08;" (Chris and Paul Andrews).

Very interesting car. I really like the two tone paint scheme.

Intresting VIN tag
This is not the usual you see on the 289 cars.
Can any one tell something yout this version?

The wheels seem to be very badly positioned in the wheelarches. Were they all like that?

There is a pretty thorough write up on this car in the Shelby Cobra Registry

The photos are photo shopped. There is some sort of radio on the car, maybe a CB. And the antenna is in some photos but not in others. If is mounted near the rear view mirror.

"the first racing-spec Shelby Cobra sold to the public"
Does that mean that 2002 was not sold to the public? Or 2002 was not built as a racing-spec car?
I don't know a lot about the original cars, that's why I ask.
"Owner: Larry Miller
CSX 2002, the first Cobra race car, made its debut at Riverside in October of 1962, driven by Billy Krause. CSX 2002 launched the racing campaign that culminated in Shelby American winning the World Manufacturer's Championship in 1965. "

Interesting comment on the photoshopping.
At best, I think, this car had the body off and had it painted. Inside it looks all old and outside too new. The "powered by ford" decals sit differently left and right.
But maybe that's how they were in the 60s!

Dom
The car has been repainted and changed, last I saw the car it was painted like today (believe the body was spot repaired not removed) and it had a host of weird stuff under the hood like dryer vents etc....
Would have to dig out old pics from I think SAAC32?

Thanks!
So the wheel positions are naturally odd..
Let's see what happens at the auction tomorow!

Guys, this is an early race car that was given a minor restoration and paint job roughly 10 years ago. Early cars did not have the footbox ID tags common to later ones, nor do I see one in the photos. The wheel openings aren't photoshopped; they're off because properly repairing years of race damage would have removed most of the car's patina. It is what it is: a 52 year old ex-race car with a quick re-do of its cosmetics.

I just commented on the Photo shop work I noticed because I thought it was odd. I am sure anyone who plops down the $ it will take to own that will take a closer look then some photos on the interweb.

2011 was repainted by Symbolic Motors to represent the cars 1964 paint scheme. The then owner wanted to retain as much patina as possible and when Symbolic repainted the car it was done in a manner that most race cars were done in the day, quick and dirty. I had worked on this Cobra during this time. It appears some things have changed since I last saw 2011, most notably the early 2x4 induction system has been replaced.

Exactly! It is what it is, and still represents the way things were 50 some years ago!

When I had worked on 2011 it was also prepared for vintage racing, mostly HMSA events such as Monterey, Sonoma and Coronado. There were things on the car that were changed to conform to the HMSA safety standards, mostly related to the fuel system.
