Need help with quick jack hardware - what is this?
Wanting to replicate the original quick jack mounting hardware. Appears that the the bolt head was inside the body (or was it threaded rod?) and the nut was visible when looking at the quick jack. The end of the bolt (or rod) was slotted for a screwdriver. Here's a pic I found from what appears to be an original 427 car.
But I am having a tough time figuring it out. Is that a split washer on the outside of the nut? How is that possible? Any help in deciphering this pic would be of great value.
regards,
Ron

The nut is an Aerotight all metal locking nut. Came from the British aircraft industry but used throughout original Cobra's and Cobra 427. They are available still through current suppliers. Just Google "Aerotight" nut and you'll find them.
I'm not sure about the slotted shaft but I think Acton Custom sells them.

On the subject of Aerotights, does anyone have a source for 7/16" UNF? I can get most other sizes, but not fine thread 7/16".

Have you tried fastenright.com? They have a pretty big selection of nuts.

Just put them on my Hi-Tech this week...thanks, Nick. I slotted the rods with a Dremel.
btw, Nick...you said it could be "tricky" to get up behind the brake air scoops. That was understatement :-)
But I'm very pleased with the result...the details do make a difference.

mickmate, the photo from the OP indicates a gold iridite/yellow chromate color. Your hardware kit (per the photo on your web site) also alludes to this same yellowish hue. What exactly are you referencing that should be grey/silver? Thank you for the clarification.

I need your help to confirm/correct my understanding.
The mounting hardware available from Acton was used on 427 Comp cars and NOT on the 289 race cars.
On all pictures I checked on 289s I can see only normal bolts and not the mechanical locking nuts.

I would expect American made NAS specification bolts and matching nylon insert prevailing torque self locking nuts for any period Shelby American installation.
