Header suggestions - 289 - under car exhaust
Good afternoon fellow cobra enthusiasts,
I am looking for a set of headers that will fit an original 289 MkII car (CSX214X) – shorty or full length depending on availability.
Since there’s hardly any space in the engine compartment and I do not want to cut the frame or chassis, I probably have to go fully custom…
It currently runs its original Y shaped cast iron manifolds from the factory and I am in the process of replacing the entire exhaust system (under the car, no sidepipes).
Very much looking forward to your feedback and suggestions,
Marius

We can offer stainless tube headers as well as a complete stainless undercar system. The headers are available in several port configurations including the original Hi-Po exhaust ports. We can also offer several tube sizes to suit the power level. The exhaust system has a low profile muffler for extra ground clearance and can be spec'ed as quiet, touring or loud.
These fit Superformance. Shelby CSX and original cars with original frame configuration. rick@timemachinesauto.com

Keep those original manifolds and pipes! Box them up or store them somewhere but those parts should stay with the car!

I'm not sure I understand the modernization of the original Cobra. Exhaust plus brakes comes in the "restomod" space. Are you sure you want to do that? I mean it's your car and if you want the modern stuff, but to do those changes to an original seems quite bold given the value of the originals. Certainly you don't want to do anything that isn't reversible (so new foot boxes for brakes are probably not in the cards) and keep all the original parts.

I have an original set of Shelby America drag headers made by Bellanger, originally installed around 1966-67 on CSX2410. They need to be cleaned up, but no pinholes or noticeable damage. Feel free to message me an offer if you're interested. They have both piping to go under car and a flange with cover for fender exit when you want to uncork.

My 8000 Exhaust
I wanted the cast iron exhaust, so we made these pipes to transition to the exhaust.
Works well for a street car.
