Default Engine and coolant tank color

I am restoring a previous replica ERA S/C with primarily track use in the past to a period correct street beauty.

I have read some of the past engine color discussions in this forum and want to make sure I got it right, as well as ask a question about the expansion tank

1 - I understand that the real S/Cs were built a bit later, would have a blue engine because of that. Is it the same blue as a later CJ? Would there be blue 427s too in that timeframe or were all the blue ones 428 powered?

2 - Does the intake mounted expansion tank get painted blue or black like other 427 Fords? The car I have now has it painted engine color (blue) but it looks odd to me.

Thanks in advance

Ross,

Have a look at this post since I had a similar question in the past.

Engine color

FWIW I decided on black since what was gathered is that 427s were black and 428s blue. But when looking at cars like CSX4041 it is blue. Seems it depends. You need to decide what year your car is.

Good luck!

My impression is that 427s were black and 428s were blue. And the expansion tank was the engine color. But in the Shelby world you can’t always depend on logic and impressions.
