Default 351W with T5

I am about to put my engine in (351W) with my T5 and I am worried that the 12 inch flywheel with a 11.5 clutch will not work with my Mustang T5 tranny.

I noticed that the T5 for the 302's use a 11 inch flywheel with a 10.5 clutch.

My T5 is a world class out of a 92 mustang GT.

Any idea if I have a issue here or if I need a different bell housing?

An 11.5/12" clutch isn't meant to be used with a SBF. It won't fit with a T5 bellhousing, or any aftermarket bellhousing.

You will need a 10.5" clutch and if you use the factory bellhousing, you'll need a diaphragm pressure plate for an easy swap.

Nobody needs an 11.5/12" clutch, not even for the biggest big blocks.

My engine builder selected the flywheel. I guess he was looking at the flywheel for my engines previous life in a F250. Now I have a engine balanced with the wrong flywheel
:-(

Can anyone tell me what flywheel they used?

Are you using a factory 5.0/T5 bellhousing?

You will need a 28oz imbalance flywheel.....from RAM, McLeod, Ford Racing, etc. Preferrably a steel flywheel...

These flywheels are meant to be used with a 10.5" clutch.

Yes I am using a factory T5 bellhousing I think. The trans came with the bell housing. I am having trouble getting the bellhousing unbolted though, so you never know.

So a internally balanced flywheel? If so, what do I do about my engine being balanced with the externally balanced flywheel?

Would the 1 below work?

Actually, upon further review on summit, it looks like I need a Ram - 1527 Externally balanced 157 tooth.

Yes, you need an externally balanced flywheel...28oz.

You will also need another clutch. The 11.5" clutch won't fit inside the factory bellhousing, or any other aftermarket bellhousing. Plus the flywheels will not have that pressure plate pattern on them.

I can beat Summit's pricing on all McLeod/RAM items.

Thanks, the good news is that I have not purchased the clutch yet and I hope to swap the flywheel for the correct 1 from the place I got it.

I will not be running a hydrolic clutch, will the diaphragm pressure plate cause a issue with that.

What clutch would you recommend? Price?

You going to use a cable?

Either way, the diaphragm clutch will work just fine...especially with a factory bell and clutch fork.

I would recommend a RAM clutch kit, 88794HDX. $189 + shipping. Rated for 450hp, organic disc, diaphragm pressure plate, throw out bearing.

I have a few questions. 302s changed over to 50 oz. flywheels/dampers in what 1980. What were the years and balances of the 351w. TomsCobra did not say what year engine he has. Does not the crank balance affect which flywheel/damper used. I know 302 strokers use the 28 oz. balance but is not a different crank used?

The 5.0's were all 50oz imbalance. The 351's are 28oz. The stroked 302's are also 28, but because they use aftermarket crankshafts that are set up to be externally balanced with that amount of imbalance.

The crankshaft balance certainly dictates which damper/flywheel/flexplate to use.
