Ford Racing Z Cylinder Heads
Looking for feedback on Ford Racing Z heads. Upgrading from 351 to stroker....most likely 427. Are the Z heads suitable for a 427 @ 550HP? Peak HP around 5500 and peak torque around 4500 with 240-250 duration cam.

Port and chamber, valve sizes and flow numbers would help.
If you want 550HP they need to flow at least 300cfm at .600".

All the 427 Ford Racing crate motors we have dynoed or seen actual dyno charts from have done over 550HP. So that's my way of saying yes they can get there.

With so many other good brands of heads out there why the ford racing Z heads, also you may have to use different headers with the Z heads, I know I had to, the exhaust ports were a different height, if I could do it all over again I would not buy anything with the ford racing name on it, the Z heads on my 427 crate engine had soft valve springs and soft valve guides and was a brand new engine, smoked like a chimney stack from the very first start up, check thread below.
cheers chris.

I would opt for something else...AFR, TFS, RHS, Dart, etc.

Brent,
Looking at AFR, the 195 competition head bench flows more than the Z head, even more than the AFR205. Looks like a good option for what I'm after, 427 that's very streetable. I need a very broad and flat power curve for autocross....2000-6500 range.

A smaller head would be better for autocross. AFR's are hard to beat, TFS heads are even harder to beat if you have the pistons set up for them. An AFR 195 would be a good choice. Look for good flow numbers at lower lift levels too. Remember, a smaller head with equal or better flow numbers is a plus...
