302 351w coil over plug ignition
Been working on a new ignition system for Ford small blocks, which allows the use of 1 coil per cylinder. Its taken me a few years but finally put a nice system together. Basically created a CNC compact distributor for the cam sensor, and then created a reluctor to run with the ford small blocks pulley. I hated the use of the big bulky ford distributors and wanted to created something for not only performance but show car quality. Just got it running for the first time last weekend.

Would love to see more photos and details about the system. Thanks!

The system is fairly simple. It uses LS1 coils (1 coil per cylinder) and a MSD 6010 ignition box. Since chevy and fords have the same firing order it made things fairly simple to convert over. The crank and cam sensors are also Ls1 which means when they fail you can goto any local auto store to replace it. One of the problems with other designs was the fact that they used the ugly converted distributors or poor Chinese cast pop-aluminum. My distributor uses a full solid 1" bronze bushings for support and CNC cut 6061 T6 aluminum. I wanted to create something that would not only out perform all other ignitions, but also be worthy of show car quality. Since it uses the MSD 6010 ignition box, you have a complete programmable timing curve, and optional MAP sensor timing for vac. or boost. The reluctor (trigger wheel) is also small and compact at only 3.5" diameter so it doesnt interfere with the alternator or power steering system. I will post some new photos this weekend.

Interesting....
How do you handle the hold-down for the distributor?
Keep us posted on how this works out.

The one in the photo is the show car style. The idea was to always have the unit pointing perfectly forward. The top comes off and you can actually adjust it from inside without having to turn the distributor. Its held in by an allen head set bolt on the drivers side that locks it down. This one is less than 2 inches tall but requires you to drill the block and tap out threads to lock it down. I can make the same one with standard mounting but it ends up being 3/4" taller which isn't an issue, just depends on the look your trying to achieve.

What is the advantage of this system vs putting the sensor on the crank and doing away with the distributor altogether using a modern EMS? The EMS allows doing away with the MSD box, and allows for setting a timing curve electronically.
For example: I'm running a Megasquirt MS3 PRO distributorless and multi coil. It can handle injection, ignition, either, or both.

My sensor is on the crank (bolt on lower pulley with built in reluctor)
You cant get rid of the distributor it drives the oil pump
Your thinking of the wrong MSD box, LS1-MSD box's are fully electronically programmable . With the advantage of multi-spark and capacitive discharge. But if you still don't want the MSD box this system works with any 24x ignition and or fuel injection system, many to choose from.
Camshafts run on 2:1 ratio which is 720 degree's of crank revolutions. A crank sensor can only give you 360 degrees. Since you cant get rid of the distributor anyhow because its driving your oil pump I added a cam sensor. The cam sensor tells the computer where its at in the 720 degree range. One of the main advantages here is that you get instant startups. The second your finger touches that starter button the engine is running.
Mega squirt lists a base model at 1200$, which seems real excessive to me. I want something the common guy can afford

I think you hit on a biggie with the oil pump drive. I'm dry sump and didn't think about that.
