engine block painting
Once I get my block back from the machine shop I want to go ahead an paint the block black. Not too concerned about having a paint job that I can shave in front of. I was looking at the eastwood paint and using a foam brush. Anyone had any luck this way and if so any pics?

I use Duplicolor or VHT engine enamel. It's spray-on, in a rattle can. A satin black seems to give the most desired finish for 60's Ford black.
Make sure you wash that block really good, even after it's washed at the machine shop.

+1^. You are the final inspector when you are the builder. You will be amazed at what is lurking in places you would never suspect — and thought were good to go.

I have used the eastwood engine paint and I do think it is one of the best. far exceeds anything that comes out of a spray can. I used Chevy orange (on a Chevy) and it still looks good

Block Paint
This is what I use on a block from the machine shop. I washed the block with soap and hot water before painting.

We have an Eastwood store a few miles away. Their paint is expensive, but it is the best I have ever used.
I took their Alumablast and painted my old master cylinders. Even brake fluid won't eat the stuff.

Por-15
I used Por-15's engine kit on a Rat motor once...The motor took a dump and when I rebuilt it the machine shop tanked it 3 times and the paint still didn't come off. I was rather impressed but I still resort to the rattle can of Dupli-Color engine enamel these days. Cure it with a heat gun and it works just fine.

I had the same experience. Guys at the machine shop were stunned at how hard the Por-15 paint was to get off.

I put it on with a paint brush, seemed a little easier to get into the nooks and crannies. There was not a single brush mark when finished, the stuff just smoothed itself right out and looked like I sprayed it.
If you do use a paint brush, make sure it is a cheap one. Definitely a one-way
ticket for the brush.
