Soft Top
Have never had the top or side curtains on my Superformance.
Would like to know how good it is, and do i need to use some of the clear stuff where the top contact's the paint.
Also would like info. on any hardtops made for the Superformance.
thanks, marvin

how good is it ? it leaks, but is better than not in the rain - kinda like a chinese water torture but not like waterboarding . I have had mine on many times in the rain for many miles and was glad it was there despite its leaks .
the body areas where the side curtains and top contact the paint is subject to marring .......unless protected .
For short / fast ''don't care how it looks'' protection, use painters blue tape on top of the door where side curtain rests as well as dash area where side curtain rests . the same for the area where the top fits, but do not cover the lift a dots .
for longer term protection that looks better, get some clear static cling vinyl or thin foam sheets , cut to fit - and put that on as described above . I would not recommend full time vinyl protectors as it seems at this stage you will seldom use your top. this is re-usable .
there are other ways to reduce the leaks too , one by using DAP product called 'seal and peel' , a caulk type product to put on where the windshield meets the top of the top header - fill the gaps - this stuff never really sets up and pulls off with ease leaving no residue . i do the areas where the windshield meets the supports at the body as well as the black rubber gaps at each end.
Depending on the year/serials of SPFs, there are different weather seals already installed on doors , older cars need more attention in this regard and Second Strike has had some articles on improving this.
For hardtop comments, I cant add any other than body protection above . Try contacting Froggyman ( Juan) from Kentucky cobra club as he has a hardtop on his SPF - it is on more than off and he loves it .
Enjoy the submarine run in the rain .......LOL ....Bill

Thanks Bill.
I had forgotten Juan has the hardtop.
Met him once but he was driving his 5.0 Masda truck.

The SPF tops can come in really handy. I use mine a few times a year. Mainly for when the wife and I drive to Watkins Glen every year. Better than freezing going through the mountains, approx 300 miles each way.
The main problem is speed or lack there of with the top on. I think you can only go around 80 max with the top?

Marvin check out my gallery. I just put my hard top on last week and it is awesome. I really like it. Just have to be a snake to get in and out of the car. Static vinyl is the was to go and available at any local art store for about $20. once you cut it to fit you can reuse it. Comes right off.

Marvin,
My hard top came direct from the Superformance plant in South Africa, on the boat.. It fits great. It takes 2 guys to put on and really goes on in about 10 minutes. I actually kept the rack it shipped in and mounted it on the side wall on my garage. That way I have a place to hang and store it out of the way. I love it. That car definitely takes a different look. They will send it fully painted and it has a head liner. Get the right one to match your chassis #. Well worth it. As for my motor...it's just plain awesome!

I have the factory hardtop on my Superformance. I am not a big fan of what it does for the look of the car.
That said, it really makes it a year round car for Atlanta. I put it on last week and it will stay through the winter. It was 17 degrees F yesterday morning. With the top, sidecurtains and heater on it is fine.
Quality of the factory top is great. They painted it same as the car. Stripes too.

The soft top is really meant for emergency situations. It is laughable, and when you are sitting in a monsoon, with your little wipers going 'eek-eek' and water dripping on your leg, you'll laugh too!
But, it beats getting wet. I've driven with mine on for several days, never saw any marring on the paint. Mine is VERY tight and takes about 30 mins to install. Hopefully, before the rain starts.
If I need to park my car and think it will rain, I use the tonneau cover.
