Aux. fan switch on a spf.
Does anybody know what wire to tap into for aux. fan operation on a 1721 vintage spf ? I think this would be a good thing to have on those slow moving cruises this summer. Thanks,

My fan has a relay that works when the water temp. sensor reaches the right temp. and provides a ground to trip the relay and turn on the fan. I just put a switch in the line to provide that ground when I wanted the fan on. I hope that helps.

Hmmm, my car which was built about the same time as yours came with one. You don't have a fan switch on the dash?

No fan sw. on the dash. SPF wants you to use the fuel pump switch or use a aftermarket switch under the dash. As far as i know they did not come with a fan sw. from the factory... |

A dash mounted manual fan switch became standard item on chassis 1900 and above. The factory utilized what was the standard electric fuel pump cut-off switch location for the new manual fan switch. (note: an electric fuel pump was not supplied with a new chassis) The actual wiring for a electric fuel pump cut-off switch is still provided with the newer chassis from the factory - just no switch exists on the dash anymore. A dealer or a previous owner may have added your manual fan switch if your chassis number is under 1900.

Blas, On the wiring diagram it shows a brn-blu wire coming off the thermo sw. to the relay but on mine there is just a jumper between the two relays with a brn-blu wire. Any ideas on what color wire and location to tap into to complete a circuit to the fans? Thanks...#1721 |

Blas, I was looking at the diagram in the owners manuel that came with the car. It shows a brn-blu wire that runs from the radiator sw. to the relay but i'm not locating it at the fan relay other than a brn-blu jumper wire connected to the fan relays at the pull down fuse panel. Thanks |

Well I had time this weekend to trace the neg. relay trigger wire that i found on the pull down fuse tray. The confusion was that the diagram i had showed one relay operating both fans when in fact I had two relays,one for each fan that wasn't supposed to be there till car # 1900. It's all good now and ready to cruz if the weather ever clears...

Duel fan relays started on car #1288. All cars had single relays up to that point. At car 1040 the electrics moved to a drop down fuse panel from behind the dash.

My fan switch located in the radiator has malfunctioned and it triggers the fan ALL the time. At start-up the fan runs. I would like to replace that switch, does anyone know the part number. My toggle switch (for the fan) on the dash works fine.

I think I found the part # 823 959 481 F radiator temperature fan switch made in Germany. I assume its for a German or European car. |
