radiator fan temp sensor
Can anyone tell me exactly where the temp sensor is mounted in the radiator and a part number/source for +/- 200 degree sensor? Thanks for any help.

Hi!
It is at the left side (driver side) in the lower area from the radiator. Take a look at Hillbank, you will find the sensor there. To loosen the radiator will help to get access to the hex nut....it was a strange size (not sure about it but think it was 29mm)

You will need to trim some of the fiberglass in the area of the temp sensor to gain access. Be advised that if you connect the two wires on the temp sensor together, the fans will run. A good test before replacing the part. You can get a new sensor from NAPA Autoparts, just be careful of the temperature operation range (ON/OFF) of the sensor you purchase. I use a sensor that runs a bit cooler the the stock sensor. I purchased it online from Automotion which is a Porsche parts company. Look in their Porsche 924 area (It's a water cooled Porsche) to fine the sensor.
Needed to purchase a few different sockets to remove and reinstall the part. As I recall a 3-4" drive deep well socket was too deep and a standard socket was too short because of the two electrical connectors on the outside of the temp sensor. Needed to bend both the electrical connectors a little to fit into the area wher the 3/4" drive socket fits into the socket. So you can't fully engage the drive socket into the socket when loostening of tightening the part... Hope that make sence. Once you have the parts in your hand it will all become clear.
Are you having fan problems? There is also a relay in the fans electrical circuit. Describe you problem before replacing the part if you like.

Hi Blas!
Are you sure about trimming the fiberglass? To loosen the radiator was giving me enough access to the hex of the socket. (maybe on older cars it is different) I was buying a deep socket and was cutting it.

It was only a 3x3 square on the inner wheelwell up near the sensor. I have great photos at home.... But I'm out of town.

So there must be a different in newer SPF's. I am absolutely sure that i had not trimmed the fiberglass on 2234. Loosen the radiator helps - it is tight...but with enough time and a beer it works :-)

Thanks to all for the excellent responses. Blas, no the fans are working fine. Actually I replaced the stock sensor with a 180 degree unit years ago when I was having overheating problems that turned out to be head gasket failure. The fans come on earlier and run longer than I would like, so I thought I would go back to the original value sensor. Also, regards my tach issue, I am not having much luck locating the ground wire location near my accessory plug under the dash. I sent you an email about it but hadn't heard back. I assumed you were busy with your trip.

Yes, I have photos I can send when I get home. look for a bunch of brown wires grouped together. Check the brown wires on the upper left corner of your drop down fuse panel too.

Old thread, but I am looking for a part number for the radiator-mounted temperature sensor for the fan control. Anyone have a part number that I can use to get the sensor from my local NAPA store? My car is a 2001 Superformance Cobra #963 if that helps. Thanks in advance!
Edit: after speaking with the Superformance dealer, here is the info: NAPA part number FS150: 2 spades - On @191°-198°F ascending, O@182°-189°F descending M22 x 1.5
Autozone part number is SW533.
Standard (brand name) part number is TS151.
Hope this helps others.
