Default Superformance MKIII For Sale, lots of extras

Life changes have forced the need to sell my Superformance #887. She is a one-owner car which has achieved some notoriety due to her use as a "daily driver" some years past. She is a great car for someone looking to move into a Superformance for a good price and add a little "sweat equity" to bring her back to her former glory. I just listed her in the Club Cobra "For Sale" area yesterday. Asking price is $38,500.

A little more info:
Superformance MKIII 427 S/C Cobra, SPO887. Royal Blue/White stripes with factory hardtop. New York State titled as a 2005 custom (with NY emissions waiver); built in 2000. Under the hood: Roush modified Ford Motorsports 351w with recently installed Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake, Crower #15924 cam w/302 firing order, Quick Fuel Black Diamond Q Series 750 carb. Other engine compartment upgrades include HotSwap Crane ignition, billet remote clutch and brake reservoirs, polyurethane engine and transmission mounts, Frink oil filter adapter with adjustable oil cooler bypass, larger diameter oil cooler and recent new sidepipes from Olthoff Racing and more. Geartrain: New Tremac TKO 600 5-speed transmission, 3.27 differential ratio. Suspension & Braking particulars: upgraded R/T front and rear sway bars, R/T adjustable shocks and 350lb springs, R/T rear shock mounts, Wilwood disc brakes front and rear, braided brake hoses front and rear. Rolling Stock: 15” pin drive Halibrand–style knockoff wheels with Olthoff polished spinners, shod with Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R rubber (26x12.00x15” rear; 26x10.00x15” front). Inside the cockpit: new carpet (installed at Olthoff Racing), premium German black leather upholstery, Moto-Lita hardwood-rimmed steering wheel, period correct Smiths and Lucas gauges, Carroll Shelby signature, Lucas toggle switches, A/C style pedals, and original-style/aircraft style 5-point lock and latch seatbelts for the driver and 4-point belts for the passenger. A few of the extras include: new (never installed) 3 bow soft top and side curtains, R/T ultrasmooth ball joints (never installed), tonneau cover, car cover, radiator screen and much more.

This one owner car has achieved some notoriety as I drove her year-around for several winters in upstate NY. As a result, there is some rust on the underside that “could” be cleaned up if you so choose. She had a complete repaint while at Olthoff Racing a few years ago in original colors along with painted front and rear roundels. Actual mileage on the chassis is in excess of 84,000 – the speedo was replaced several years ago and currently reads 36,665. She needs to be sorted out after her recent upgrades, and the asking price reflects this.

Jim,

I've been staring at your car since you posted it for sale. Sent a friend (Ray) of mine your way yesterday afternoon. Hoping he steps up to the the plate before I try and convince my wife I need Cobra #28 in my garage . A true smoking deal if you ask me, especially given the upkeep and upgrades that this car has.

Thanks, Bill
I have owned #887 for over 13 years, and the thrill is still there every time I start her up! She is a great deal for someone. Lots of upgrades through the years, and she needs some TLC right now, but overall a solid car.

More photos can be found at Superformance MKIII For Sale $38,500 and I will be adding more photos to that site in the next day or so.

#28 sounds like a good number to me

Assuming the 'built in 2000' reference indicates it was completed and first registered in 2000, that means this car is now eligible for importation into Canada, having reached the ripe old age of 15 years. The Canadian dollar is weak against the US dollar right now, but it's still worth knowing its importation eligibility, should someone be so inclined.

A little background info on #887...
The car was shipped to the US in 2000. I purchased her new in 2002 from a sub-dealer (Stonebridge Motor Cars) and drove her on a dealer plate until applying for a "Custom Car" title in NYS in 2005. She is titled as a "2005 Custom" (the year she was titled in NY) in New York State and is thus emissions exempt in NY. As such, I don't believe that she would eligible for Canadian import at this time, although I am NOT an expert on such things!

Jim,

Sorry to see that you are selling your cobra. I understand how life can get in the way and sometimes there are hard choices to be made. This is a nice car and should work out well for whoever purchases it. The asking price is very reasonable. I have seen the car several times and it is nice and Jim did take care of the car well, and when needed utilized Superformance dealers for work on the car.

Next time that I am in your area with the cobra I will let you know.

Good luck.

Jim

I'm no expert, just a 'somewhat informed' consumer, but it's my understanding the 15 year eligibility rule is based upon completion. First registration is often used as it's generally something the Canadian Ministry of Transportation can rely upon, but if there was documentation showing the car was completed in 2000, that may work.

Obviously anyone wishing to import such a car into Canada would want to check out the rules very carefully. I've also heard of 'snowbirds' buying cars and leaving (and using) them at their winter residences in Arizona, Texas, Florida, etc. until the cars are eligible for importation. Oh, I wish...

The complete repaint was sublet by Olthoff Racing to ESP Motorcars in Salisbury, NC in 2011. I had this done while repairing minor damage to the right rear quarter panel, rear panel and trunk lid after a winter driving mishap into a snow bank
Winter 2010 was her last year of winter driving....

The paint quality is excellent, with the exception of the inner edges of the hood and doors. The paint there is good, but needs careful polishing of the clear. I have photos showing this at Superformance MKIII For Sale $38,500

The hood (both outside and inside) was repainted after repairs for a carb fire were made at Time Machines Motorsports a couple of years ago. I am not sure who the repair was sublet to, but the paint, both inside and outside, is excellent. I also had 3M clear chip guard applied after the repaint in 2011.

As an aside, ESP Motorcars did a repaint of CSX3021. I like to think that it was done in preparation to repainting SPO887

Here is a photo of 887 on the trailer and ready to head to Olthoff Racing for body repair, service and restoration in early 2011. You can see the right rear lower quarter damage and left rear panel damage that required repair after I pulled an unplanned 180 and backed into a ditch in approximately 3-4" of snow while on the way to work one day.

The rear body damage was repaired at ESP Motorcars, then the car went to Olthoff where rear heim joints, front ball joints, tie rod ends and universal joints were replaced. Installed stainless brake hoses, brake service front and rear, and cleaned, lubed bearings and replaced the fuel tank and straps. Also installed new sidepipes with silver ceramic coating.

Not sure how long I will offer 887 for sale as we also have our house on the market. If we sell 887, we keep the house. If the house sells, 887 stays

887 was restored by the Olthoff team to a high standard. We did the engine updates and the changeover from the T5 to the TKO600 as well as some other tweaks. The trans will now take all you can throw at it. Brand new Mickey Thompson S/T tires and a fresh clutch will put the power down. All of the possible needed items have been renewed/replaced, i.e. new water pump, fuel pump, etc. Get in, turn the key and put the pedal down.

This is a great deal for someone who wants a lot of car at a low price point. Some sweat equity in repainting the suspension, etc. and you will have a heckuva car for well less than market value. You can sell the hardtop for a good amount and be that much less into the whole deal.

Mr. Mustang......ask her again... you cannot pass this deal up!

Jim,
You neglected to mention an important selling point for your car; you have my Superformance Wiring Diagram for it. You don't have that for your house !
Good luck.....

Sold my SPF #887. The new owner (car is still in NY) is happy! A great deal for him with a nicely upgraded Superformance with a unique history. And I miss her already.... I offered to buy her back last weekend when I saw him at WGI

But she needed to go while my wife and I are working through her medical issues. Maybe another SPF for me some day in the future!
